Congrats CB. Although announcing it in the Celtic thread, is one way to keep it quiet :D

Thanks for the kind words lads.

It's good to be a father of two.

Now down to business. What do we know about

this 'Braga' outfit we've got this week. I'm

sure they are the easiest out of the draw as

the others are well known. Are we going to

be okay?

Salty old son, what are your feelings here?

A very organised team, who finished last season surprisingly strong in Portugal. They reckon Celtic are the easier draw , and confident of progressing to next qualifier. Sign of the times , when less well known teams are hoping to face the old firm now

CB, It would seem that we have drawn one of the less formidable outfits at this stage. But given the changes in personnel at Parkhead and the likely difficulty of gelling the team I would be apprehensive about the outcome.

Am I correct in thinking if we could get through we would automatically qualify for Europa League the final of which will be held in the new stadium in Dublin. :whistling:

Well and truly humped. Guess that answers my question 'bout Braga!

Don't see us coming back from 3 down.

If defence is such a shambles then where's O'Dea?

Posted

odea is shit.

the 3-0 wasnt a pumping at all - they got a very dodgy penalty, a shocking defensive error for their 2nd and a completely fuc_ked up 3rd from zaluska that i could have saved 9 / 10 times.

they were fortunate to get more than 1 goal. Both teams were absolute gash - although they were least gash.

anyway, i just posted to ask is the lyon game on thai tv today? or is it just the arsenal match? Forgot what channel it was advertised on :)

Zaluska did not cover himself with glory either yesterday apparently. There are concerns.

The Scotsman:

The question principally needs to be asked of the goalkeeping position. It is clear to anyone listening closely enough that Lennon cannot countenance relying on Lukasz Zaluska. "Could I go with just Zaluska and Dominic Cervi? No. I want to get another one in. I think that's important. Zaluska is a pretty consistent goalkeeper and he's proved that, but he needs competition," says Lennon. For "competition" read a senior figure to the Pole, hence the fruitless pursuit of David James.

Unfortunately for Zaluska, he has become a magnet for misfortune in a Celtic jersey

As expected Celtic were unable to turn the tie around despite an avalanche of the "tie is not dead" articles in the last few days. It certainly was after 20 minutes when the visitors went ahead. It would seem that as like last season we have begun to leak goals again. This is not a comforting development.

Big question now is will the McGeady transfer go through. Great bit of business for Celtic IMO if it does but you have to wonder how enchanted will he be at the prospect of living in Moscow.

Celtic will play Utrecht in the Europa League qualifying round. We are the seeded team but I certainly would not be bursting with confidence about the outcome.

I was also interested in Braga's draw in final CL qualifier. It is against Seville. Moral of the story is no hope of CL football unless you win the League. You could say our hopes disappeared not in last 2 weeks but in the series of dreadful displays last season.

Hail Hail

Both my teams are playing today Celtic V Blackburn Rovers so I am hoping for a high scoring draw  Do the Celtic fans have a pub that they watch the games in BKK??

CB, I suppose there is little chance "Blessed" Martin would bite if things were not going well for Neil Lennon.

He strikes me as a man that moves forward.

Going back to Pradise may not be his style.

Who knows though, Salty old son.

Lennon turns to Smith for advice

Neil Lennon will look to Walter Smith for guidance on how to survive the pressures of being manager of an Old Firm club.

Neil Lennon will be looking to get the better of Walter Smith

While Rangers boss Smith goes into the new season looking to clinch his third successive league title - to add to the numerous other trophies he has won in his two spells at Ibrox - Lennon begins his first campaign as Hoops boss.

As caretaker manager at Parkhead following the departure of Tony Mowbray in March, Lennon finished the season in good form, notwithstanding a shock Scottish Cup semi-final defeat to Ross County.

But already knocked out of the Champions League this season, Lennon knows the "honeymoon period is over" and he will ignore traditional Old Firm rivalries and look to his Ibrox counterpart to see how to negotiate the weeks and months ahead.

"I got a taste of it (last season) but it's totally different now," he said. "The honeymoon period is over and I'm bringing in my own players now.

"The Celtic fans demand the title every year. It's pressure but I've had pressure here for ten years as a player and coach. It will be a bit more isolated on me but I'm ready for it and looking forward to it.

"I look to Walter for how he has handled things. He was good enough before I became manager to hand out little snippets of advice that were invaluable and still are. I have a tremendous amount of time for him.

"He's in a good place. People say he is under pressure but, with what he has achieved in the game, I don't think he feels the pressure any more. He is probably in a place where he even actually enjoys the job now.

"Even though the pressure is on to win the title, he has done it so often in so many different situations. We're in the same boat so there is a certain amount of empathy for each other. You respect each other's positions and what we have to go through."

Smith believes only those who have bossed Rangers or Celtic will understand the demands of the job.

"It's the same all the time with Old Firm managers," he said. "Everyone else in the league will say that's where they want to be working but it's only when you're there that you encounter the difficulties.

"Respect is something I've always had for Celtic managers. It's the same with Neil. He is just starting out. It's his first managerial job. My first job was at Rangers, so I know exactly what he'll be going through.

"The competition doesn't stretch to a personal level because we have knowledge of what each other has to endure over the season."

There we go, a winning start. 1-0 against ICT.

Nice to see Terry Butcher begin well!

We looked dodgy for the first half hour, but

came to our senses eventually. McCourt filling

McGeady's slot well and Maloney on fire.

Hopefully Maloney will stay injury free this season. At his best an excellent player and if they can get your personal favourite fit CB, things would look a lot more promising. Seems we need to get the finger out from kick off.

Shay Given situation interesting but I would think he would jump at the chance of playing for the Arse and CL football. They would be very happy to get him.

TV is crap where I am staying in Pattaya at present so I will be depending on your acute observations for a few weeks until I return home on Sept 1st and resume contact with all the football channels.

An old 'personal favourite' of mine was Paul Hartley

if you remember, Salty old son. Well he had a dream

start to the season yesterday with his new team,

Aberdeen, by scoring a hattrick. All goals from the

penalty spot. He won't be looking back too, I guess!

Enjoy Jomtien Salty. Have a toad-in-the-hole at

Simple Simon's for me.

Hi CB,

I did not know that Paul Hartley had left Bristol City for Aberdeen. Pity Celtic got him so late in his career. Who can forget his corner in Tannadice headed in by JVH to clinch the title for us.? :)

I decided to stay in View Talay 6 this trip beside Central Festival. Everything much more accessible but TV channels are shit unlike View Talay 2 in Jomtien which had everything. I am confined to base after a bad fall a few weeks ago so have no way of watching football. :annoyed:

Posted

Here, I forgot to mention, isn't the

new away shirt absolutely hideous?

Who gets paid to design that crap?

Was your fall alcohol related, Salty old son? ;)

Posted

No alcohol CB. I was wading the short distance back to base 3 weeks ago after torrential rain. Footpath was covered in rain and I fell into a hole which had just been left there. I was lucky I did not break my leg. Very bad cut which is taking a long time to heal.

I am being bombarded with e.mails about the away kit but I have enough pyjamas to be going on with. It will be interesting to see how this big Swede Majstorovic gets on. He certainly has the physical attributes.

Hey guys,

Anybody know what's happened to the Scottish Football on the UBC/True Visions. They seem to have stopped showing it just as i upgraded as well. Doh.

At least he's honest:

Aiden McGeady revealed the constant abuse he received in Glasgow led to his decision to leave Celtic for Spartak Moscow.

"Moscow is a huge city and it will be possible to have a degree of privacy," he told the Daily Record. "Glasgow really is a goldfish bowl and it's one of the things I'm glad to be getting away from.

"Neil Lennon (Celtic manager) said to me I might miss the adulation Celtic players get but I'm not so sure. My view is I need a break from it. I've had my experiences of Glasgow and I do need a change.

"There is always someone wanting to have a go at you. I got into a few fights in the past and wish I hadn't. I let my guard down a few times and it cost me.

"But some of the verbal abuse I had to take was really out of order. Because I'm a footballer, people think they are entitled to say what they like and get away with it. I'm talking about grown men here. They would shout, 'I hate you' or 'I'm gonna kill you, wee man'. There was also a lot worse but I'm not going to go into that."
