Aussie Harry Nicolaides faces charges in Thailand.

A MELBOURNE man has been arrested in Thailand for allegedly committing crimes against the country's royal family, authorities say.

The 41-year-old was arrested on Sunday.

"We can confirm the arrest of a 41-year-old Australian man, originally from Melbourne, in Bangkok on August 31 on possible lese majeste charges," a Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) spokesman said.

Lese majeste charges relate to offences against the Crown.

My God, I just did a search and found some excerpts from his book. :o:D :D

In the interests of not being instantly banned I won't bother to repeat them here.

They pulled the plug on it in the Chiang Rai forum as well.

It's freely available elsewhere though. :o

Jesus.

This guy deserves it. Visits thailand on and off for a couple of years and this arrogant pr1ck probably approaching his own mid-life crisis - thinks he can see everything crystal clear in the ambiguous world that is the land of smiles.

I haven't read the whole book, but skimming through it, I can sort of understand what he means and wants to say, but I can find fault in nearly everything he says too.

The dude should have kept his job aas a concierge in Melbourne, concieted little twit.

And I thought I knew very little.

This is probably going to be our first real test so please lets do this carefully.

There is serious debate as to whether the book is genuine or not. The author claimed that the book was published (lists an ISBN) but there are apparently no copies - he now claims that a small number of books were published and provided the Thai Police copies of the extract as evidence.

It may be that he purpose all along was to be arrested for lese majeste in full knowledge that all foreigners are given a full pardon and simply deported from the Kingdom. With the amount of interest from foreign media as a result and subsequent public knowledge of the book he has managed to create a large demand for a book that previously sank without a ripple

Update: The NGO champion of press freedom in Thailand, FACT (Freedom Against Censorship Thailand), has thus far been unable to locate a single copy of the supposed novel to add to their archives. It's looking more like a hoax that backfired on Nicolaides.

In an effort to be kind to the mentally handicapped, it looks like now that he'll be released from his prison sentence within the next few months or perhaps sooner.

They may even choose to allow him to keep his souvenir ankle bracelets as a loving memento of his time in Thailand.

Seeing as this has reached the farce stage I posted a similar article in Bedlam.

Has he lost some weight?

I've heard that Thai prisons are great for reducing those bulging waistlines with their austere dieting regimen.

Harry is back home and talking about his Thai experiences. I won't quote from the article in case it breaches rules.
