I use Garmin GPS, as I have several. I have a Nuvi 200 in my Thai car and a Zumo 450 on my bike with the Garmin version of the "older" ESRI Map on a Garmin SD chip which works really well. You can get the newer version of the Map from ESRI in BKK, whihc is loaded directly into your GPS. To me the cost difference isn't worth the new version unless of course you are in LOS already, then you might as well get the complete package.

I also use my Etrex with maps from Mapcenter and my Garmin 2610 with Mapcenter maps loaded.

Lots of options.

Eric

Garmin nuvi 200 cost me 14,700B at the mac shop in the bottom of tuk com Pattaya Tai.

English & Thai.

I am using my mobile phone (N82) with the installed navigation. It works quite well, but you should use the older version of Nokia Maps (1.2), because the newer version navigates only in and very near to Bangkok. I am still waiting for updated map data, before I do an upgrade. Otherwise, it is pretty good and you can install any language you want.

I use a VGA screen PAD Windows Mobile phone with GPS. Loads of free software for it on the net and maps.. costs me nothing to run in mapping software or maps.

anyone on this board using this Garmin Nuvi device??

any feedback would be appreciated

The Nuvi series are great as long as you have the ESRI Thailand map installed. Any GPS is only as good as the map that is on it.

I am useing an new Nuvi 760 with ESRI Maps, I also have an extra plug and play map of ESRI thailand v8 if anyone is looking for one. Will work on any Garmin gps with sd slot.

Buy one in the west for half as much (310 nuvi is now under 80 quid) and load the maps on yourself..

5000 baht or so cost v the 15 or so asked here !!

Nuvi 200 with Thai maps on special at www.Gadgetrend.com 9900bt.

Can you show me where I can get a good, updated Thai map for free to load onto the Nuvi 310 please.

It is against Forum rules to discuss how to download pirated software via torrent or warez sites.

There are free maps available, here is the link;

http://mapcenter.cgpsmapper.com/

They are made by GPS enthusiasts and no doubt they have spent many hours building these maps. Unfortunately they cannot compare to the ESRI map.

Just have a look at the GPS. If it has the ESRI map, it will have a sticker on it saying ESRI. Also, there will be a CD-ROM inside the box labelled Garmin and ESRI Thailand.

Hi

I have search the web.....but somehow I cant find any software for my nokia N80.

I would really appreciate if you could give me some website address where I could downloaded for free.

Thanks in Advance Walter

On any WindowsMobile device with internal GPS or external (bluetooth) GPS you can run software like Google Maps. Its free, has all the maps of the world, is in Englisch but does not have turn-2-turn-voice-navigation.

Then there is Route 66 or Garmin, both are not free but has turn-2-turn-voice-navigation. Both have maps world-wide.

You could also use GPS-Tuner with or without maps.

You could also buy a Nokia phone with GPS and have Nokia Maps.

All get there map-data from the same 2 providers (at least for Thailand) and basically that data has a lot of missers. The problem is in the translation from Thai to English and in the data of actual roads.

Well, my advice to all, who are considering GPS device:

If you want to use it in your car, buy an appropriate GPS for automobile navigation.

Any PDA or mobile phone with GPS is useless unless you want to have several wrong turns and (perhaps) put yourself or other people in danger by concentrating more on the GPS PDA/phone than the road.

I decided to buy my own GPS device after knowing that my friend, who is a Thai, bought a GPS for himself because he cannot be sure about the road path in Thailand.

He had similar activity like me i.e. visiting factories for our job.

After doing some research, I decided to buy Garmin Nuvi 200W in Amazon last year; The price in Thailand was so expensive (around THB 15,000)

Garmin 200W is Amazon costed me around USD 200, and I bought Thailand ESRI map (also from Amazon) for around USD 100, hence my cost was around USD 300 (around THB 10,000)

Then I had somebody, who happened to visit Thailand from USA, to bring the GPS to Bangkok.

Before using Garmin, I had experience to travel from Sukhumvit soi 12 to soi 24 for 2 hours in the night time, obviously because I took the wrong way.

Things are good since I had my Garmin; Now I even dare to drive to Damnoen Saduak or Amphawa floating market; Driving to Huahin or Cha-Am? It's so easy.

I am using a Garmin Nuvi 200W, which I got from the UK 18 months ago. It came installed wirh Europe map. I got my Thailand map from Rotweiler Maps.

http://rotweilermaps.com/maps.cfm

The quality and accuracy of the Thailand maps are excellent and are updated on a regular basis about every two to three months. They also produce maps for Malaysia, Laos Cambodia, Bali, Hong Kong and Indochina.

They are very pleasant to deal with and are always ready to help, or listen to suggestions for improvements. I heartily recommend them.

The Nuvi series are great as long as you have the ESRI Thailand map installed. Any GPS is only as good as the map that is on it.

I have tried both the ESRI Thailand map and Rotweilers All Thailand Map and Rotweiler wins hands down, It's coverage of all Thailand is far more detailed and accurate on my Nuvi 200W

But what if you have (like me) a Navigon? I contacted Navigon (i am here in USA, moving to thailand in august) and they don't forsee making maps of thailand available.

Does anyone know of maps that will work with a Navigon?

thanks
