Driving A Motorbike In Bkk Without A Thai License

If you kill someone while driving you will have to pay if you have a license or not, if you only have the compulsory insurance that is.

The compulsory covers damage to others and others property plus the driver. A full covers obviously much more like theft of your bike and damage to it as a really good benefit. There is no point in an insurance without a license for anything else than theft.

No it doesn't, it covers injuries to a a third party only, not the driver or thrid party property, there is also an upper limit to the cover and it isn't very much at all.

Third party injuries are not the same as paying death money, that will not be covered at all.

Great learned something new today :o

I never had a third party one so I believed it was equivalent to a European 3rd party, which it apparently is not.

Thanks for the info

I see. So i guess paying those fine is just part of the cost of driving a bike here. 'Sucks. I hate those cops. They always seem to be on a power trip or something to and really rude and agressive. It seems like they pull me over for no valid reason, but trying to complain about it (my Thai is minimal anyways) is just a waste of time, so I'm usually just polite hoping that next time they see me they'll just let me go through. Corrupted and arrogant police's got to be one of the top 5 anoying things about Thailand. At least the fines only amount to a few bucks. I feel more sorry for the Thai workers who queue with me to pay those fines. It represents half their daily income or something.

Dude, however you want to look at it, it is WAY better than anything, anywhere at anytime in the states. Especailly when it comes to riding motorcycles, drivers licenses, cops or tickets. So no more whining, or I'll fine you! Remember, this is not the U.S. they don't have to have a reason to pull you over, they just do. Get the Thai driver license. Follow the rules the best you can, carry some baht at all times, and don't let them just "shake you down". If your papers, etc. all in order (often even when they are not) they will just let you go. If you did something wrong, pulling out a 100 baht note to "pay the fine" on the spot often works well too.

If you think they are being too heavy on a fine, like 500+ baht, for something minor you did do wrong, like riding in the far right lane, and even when the fine collector Captain is right near by at his little table, I've even just told them "cannot", showed the 2 100 baht notes I had in my pocket, and he said okay and just wrote the ticket for 200 baht. I actually "no hab" more cash on me at that time because I was on my way to the bank to pick up my monthly, but it worked and since then I keep it in mind. On the other hand, it turned out that Thai riders with the same violation at same time were only being fined 200 baht, so it was clear he was trying to do the farang fist-Fk on me anyway. By the way, I had no Thai license, no intl. license, only my punched/expired U.S. license they used to write my name on the ticket for the right lane violation. Which wasn't right anyway. No ticket/fine/problem about driver license.

They actually are pretty fair. In the U.S. they would have impounded the bike, cited you, probably a mandatory court appearance, and in some states, even arrested you.

And there are soooo many hot freakin chicks! Get a Thai license, it will make you more cool!!!

:)

I so totally have too much time on my hands lately....
