Chiang Rai Water Tanks

Featured Replies

Thought about putting this in the 'do it yourself building forum' but think it appropriate for here as I don't or can't do it myself.

Has any one put in a water tank into their house say the last 12 months, and if so where did you buy it and did the company install. I am looking at abt 2000L tank.

Tenant in our house in Chiang Rai wants a water tank and will pay extra rent if we put it in. I am thinking the cost will be abt 10,000 to 12,000 B. Might be over or under? Good tenant, so just want to do the right thing. At this stage not sure if they want to feed it into the house as the water supply.

Bit hard to get idea of price , being so far away.

Any way just a thought, if any one has done a similar project, your experience would be most welcomed.

Cheers

Just be aware that " .. feed it into the house as the water supply. " may well be more complicated than you/they think.

I had a tank at by house by the beach to collect rain water. (ground water was terrible). The 2 tanks I had were the commonly seen blue plastic variety, and NOT pressure tanks.

What that means is that if the water tanks are to be used on a regular basis, you will need some type of valve to open/shut off the feed to the tank. If the valve is of the float type, and it sticks, you will be 1) pumping water out the top of the tank or, 2) trying to pump from an empty tank.

You will also need an extra pump .. pumping from the tank to the house.

If the water is only to be used in an emergency, you can rig up a couple of ball valves to switch from supply to tank. And you/your tenant will become aware that the water in the "emergency" tank can get pretty slimy.

I think my setup of 2 tanks (2000 + 1500 lt), pump, valves, piping and labor was under BT 20,000.

If you do go for it, I recommend rain gutters as well .. but with LEAF GUARDS .. as rain water is really nice for bathing. I know that some of the water around CR used to have LOTS of iron.

I just noticed your "being so far away". An installation like you are describing should not be left up to the local "assembler of blue plastic pipe".

Thanks for your experience Klikster. I am in Australia.

I wasn't quite sure on the set up but what you said explains the process.

Cheers

Chris
