A Happy Omen?

Featured Replies

The new moon and the two brightest stars in the sky formed a perfect smiley face tonight. The villagers called out to us to come an see it.

When we went back in they were showing it on the news as well.

Better times to come? :o

heheheehe i was thinking that when i saw it this evening. Iooks super cute. Did anyone get a photo per chance? Dont have my camera at the mo :o

Good pics LB (where did they come from?) the night sky has been overcast here for a few weeks, I was hoping to see this in real time, I doubt I will this time around (doubt I'll be here for the next time around :D )

Thanks for sharing :o

I popped into bedlam to start a similar thread, but I was beaten to it.

I have posted it on a UK forum and apparently they will not get the same happy smiley effect, the poor souls.

The Halle Bopp Comet a few moons ago was good.

It was in 97 that it came about and was equally impressive.

Have you heard of this particular phenomenon before Thad? If it is reoccurring I wonder what the names of the stars are?

Historically, unusually astronomical events have always been interpreted variously by witnesses.

The Star of Bethlehem would be the best known example and anyone familiar with the Bayeux Tapestry would remember the comet... I think it was Haley's, depicted on one of the panels before the Norman invasion of England.

A good omen for the Normans, a bad omen for the English!

The "stars" of the show are none other than our very own Venus and Jupiter. :o

Well cant be an evil omen from folklore as I didnt see any Thais running and screaming in terror when they saw it.

Had me laughing when I saw it and I called everyone I know to look at it, most of them thought I was on drugs.

Phil has already answered the second part. For the first part.

The next time the three will be as close and visible as this week will be Nov. 18, 2052, according to Jack Horkheimer, director of the Miami Space Transit Planetarium.

Jeez, I'll be 100years 3months and 5days old young then. Must put it in my social calendar if I can only remember where I put the dam_n thing.

An Omen ?

Ever heard the phrase, "Man plans - God laughs."

No, I have never heard that one Cuban!

I thought it was "man proposes, God disposes".

(Homo proponit, sed Deus disponit; for the classically educated). :o

I don't think you need to be classically educated to know that one! :o

I have a classical CD called the "Planet Suite" Spooky, or what ? I aslo have "Stars" Simply Red and "The Darker side of the Moon ". Who would of thought those moments of consumer madness would have led to this...................
