Hello

Can anyone enlighten me as to the difference between Diesel and Diesel 95 or is it 85 which is about a baht cheaper.

What should I use in my Vigo? and why?

thanks

There is no octane rating for diesel. Here in Thailand they offer diesel and B5 diesel which is 5 percent vegetable oil. I use B5 because it supposedly helps keep the fuel system cleaner. I'm sure the B5 is OK for any diesel engine. I see no difference in performance or economy.

Hi

Anyone know if using B5 is likely to invalidate any warranty one might have from manufacturer?

The fuel with the vegtable oil in it will clean out you tank and lines, so there is a possibility of clogging up the filter for an older car.

It remains an area where not all engine manufactures have officially approved B5. There is a possibility that B5 can oxidize and cause problems. If the manufacturer determines that your fuel system has been damaged by bad fuel, the warranty won't cover the repairs. All the major players have approved fuel up to 5 percent vegetable oil. If bad or poor quality fuel causes damage, repairs are not covered. That includes poor quality diesel fuel whether it is B5 or not. The bottom line is that you have to trust the oil companies.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but are you referring to the fuel or oil filter?

So if one was to start using B5 diesel, one should have an interim replacement for this filter at some point after starting on the new fuel before the regularly scheduled replacement?

PTT B5 is 95% diesel fuel blended with 5% bio-diesel (not neat vegetable or palm oil - there is a big difference).

There are four fuel oils available on the market for automotive applications:

Diesel

B5 (see above)

B100 - 100% bio-diesel. (not widely seen in the market)

Palm - 100% palm oil. (not widely seen in the market)

Diesel & B5 will work well in any diesel engine - however, it might be a good idea with newer engines to see if the manufacturer has added it to the specification. (Note: B5 & B20 mixes have been proven to achieve slightly better effeciency due to additional lubrication qualities and excess oxygen stored within the bio-diesel.)

B100 is better suited to older engines that are not Euro II, III or IIII fuel specification. Checking of the fuel system to make sure there are no rubber hoses and seals is essential as B100 can attack the rubber and cause leakages.

Palm will only work with additional modifications to the engine.

Cheers. :o
