The Power And Worth Of The Web

Featured Replies

Sorry about starting a new thread on this. I couldn't find the thread where I have mentioned my classic cars before. However, I decided to sell one of my classics (1975 Saab 96 v4) and posted an ad on a site dedicated to this type of car. Lo and behold, by the end of the day I had two queries, one of which turned into a sale. The guy lives in Northern Ireland and didn't even come to see the car, he bought it on the strength of my 'honest' description and a number of photos I emailed him. Sold in a few days. I'm sad to see it go, but happy that I had such a quick sale. Why is it we can feel so sad on selling a car?!?

Her's my baby just before I took her to the docks for her sailing to Belfast.

ps Got the exact asking price without any question.

pps You can see the other classic I decided to keep in the background of the photo. A 1966 Volvo Amazon.

Wow...that's an exceptional MUTUAL kind of trust between 2 people who don't know each other; hope you got your money before shipping.

For the feeling....? Yes, sometimes a man is a weird kind of human being...loving his wheels. :o

On another note: I watched this scam with car sales going on in Europe now, whereby scammers from Rumania sell cars (from the UK in this case because they moved from the mainland to the UK...blabla)...wife pregnant, need cash etc. etc. and sell cars for prices 10-15% lower than market prices.

Lots of people are scammed already who trusted the fake salespeople; they even gave the details for the transporting company with website, phone numbers etc. unbelievable.

Of course the cars were never delivered.

I suppose it a scammers world now. However, he sent me the money by bankers draft, I banked it on the Monday and shipped the car out on the Tuesday, he had it on the Wednesday. Everyone's happy!

Re your OP Tiggs, it seems the asking price may have been a tad on the low side?

That's true mate, but I couldn't bear to just sit around waiting for tyre kickers to haggle with me about little details. So a fair and honest price and description and voila, sold to an enthusiast who's going to restore her to her former glory.

I am afterall keeping my beloved Amazon, I could never sell that car and one of them had to go. I just have no time for 3 cars and a motorcycle - so 2 cars and a motorcycle is managable! :o

Is a bankers draft the same as a cashiers check? I wouldn't accept a cashiers check but from folks I really knew well. Laser printers do a fine job of printing them and banks will accept them, but, theres always a but, they come back 4-6 weeks later as being forged and the bank wants their money back.

I truly hope you've no problems.

Great looking car Tiggs, sorry for your loss................. :o

Was the V4 a Triumph-based engine? Did that model have free wheeling hubs?

My first car was an Audi 80. I thought I'd got quite a bargain till the local paintshop man pointed out that the two sides were different shades of green :o

Actually it was a Ford Germany sourced engine. 60 degree v4 - mad as a biscuit! But great fun to drive. Not sure about the Triumph having the freewheel option.

1975 Saab 96 v4... A 1966 Volvo Amazon.

You sure seem to trust us Swedes, Tiger... :o

Totally! The Amazon was one of the most robust and reliable cars ever. Mine still runs as sweet as a nut!
