Animals

Featured Replies

The first time i went to Pattaya (about 4 years ago) there was loads of people with animals going to the bars, snakes, monkeys, lizards even an elephant one time. But year after year it seems to be getting less. I think last time i saw just 1 snake.

So does any one know why they aren't around so much ?

Why would you want to see abused, drugged animals being taken around Bars, its well known that most Thais have absolutely no respect for animals.

See report seversal days ago in Bangkok Post as below for example:

A chronic lack of experience among zoo keepers had led to the deaths of almost 300 animals at the Chiang Mai Night Safari in just two years, zoo director Preecha Ratanaporn said yesterday. Poor diet and inadequate care from the zoo's veterinarians had caused the demise of many animals, including zebra and giraffe, he said.

The zoo is home to about 1,700 animals but the complex employs just six veterinarians.

Chiang Mai Night Safari, initiated by the Thaksin administration, opened on Feb 6, 2006. It is located in Muang district's tambon Suthep and Hang Dong district's tambon Nong Khwai.

The zoo director's statement came after members of the web board for nature and animals at pantip.com discussed the matter. They said the cost of the dead animals could be as high as 26 million baht.

''We don't think this is a big issue,'' Mr Preecha said

I will say thaT NOT ALL THAIS ARE SO BAD.

ENOUGH SAID!! :o

Seems like a lot. Is that another way of covering up the frequent staff BBQ's where tasty animals get to be the main course? :o

On reading the topic I thought this was about the Friday night crew. :o

As to the beggars who use illegally kept animals to annoy the tourists, there has been an effort by the authorities to curtail their activities. I suspect the confiscation of the animals had a lot to do with the reduction in numbers.

Thats the answer I needed !

I don't know where you go but up tward North Pattaya there are the pythons, iguanas and some other little furry thing that I have no idea what it is.

The amount of snakes doing the rounds every night is the worst I have seen in years - at some stages there are 4 guys in one bar trying to sell photos of you with the snake. :o

There was a crackdown in BKK a couple of years ago but the elephants at least were back last year and a few bird sellers (don't know about this year :o )
