3 Month Non Immigrant O Vientianne

3 month Non Immigrant O Vientianne

-------------------------------------------

I have a question about the non immigrant O visa and

Vientianne. I am married to my thai wife, 5 years and

have a 2 year old son here.

I had a 3 month non immigrant O here last year which

I extended at a local immigration office. This ends

at the end of january 2005.

Im dont work here and Im intending to return to the

UK to start a new job in April this year.

I would like to stay in Thailand until then but what

should I do ? Just go up to Vientianne with

* passport and passport photo's

* marriage certificate

* tabianne baan

* photos of marriage

* copy of wifes id

* thai bank books (?)

(2 copies of all)

If I only want three more monthsm is it easy to just

go for a single entry non O in Vientianne ? Or will

their eye brows be raised by a extension folloowed

by a 3 month non O.

Should I transfer the 400k to a Thai bank or it it

not necessary in this case ?

Thanks

You should be OK but Vientiene is not too predictable. You can explain your situation, and you can take letters of offer and the like to confirm what you tell 'em. Penang is better to deal with. Evidence of funds somewhere may be required to confirm that you are not just trying to avoid the financial obligations attached to a support visa.

Not sure if you are talking about a one year support Thai wife extension but will guess that was it. I would not count on obtaining a new O visa from Vientiane if that is the case as they normally only issue for those who need to apply for an extension of stay for the first time from what I gather (although I could be wrong).

If you have the money to transfer I would go that route and obtain another year stay. Perhaps you can arrange trip(s) the next year to continue or if not obtain a multi entry O in the UK.

You can probably get by with a tourist visa or even border runs for those two months if you do not want to transfer the money. Once you have the job in UK you should be able to obtain multi entry O visa for visits without much trouble.

A tourist visa for two months ? That sounds a bit suspect after having had a non O. I thought they would have rejected that straight away.

Yes I was talking about a one year support Thai wife extension.

My experience with that was we moved alll the money into a Thai bank and then they asked us what money we could show / supply on top of the (what was then) 200k limit. No set rules and every consulate / embassy seems to be making it up as they go along.

Consulates/Embassy are located overseas but money requirement for extension of stay is an immigration issue so not sure what you mean when you talk about money over 200k. You are expected to be employed if you use the support Thai wife extension so perhaps immigration was politely asking how you would obtain replacement funds (job)? Anyhow that will not be a problem once you get to work in UK.

As for tourist visa most consulates are much more willing to issue one of these than a non immigrant type. You have a reason not to extend as you are going to work outside Thailand after two more months so think even Vientiane might issue.
