ST MIRREN DUMP OUT CELTIC

Posted 07/03/09 14:51EmailPrintSave

Billy Mehmet's second-half penalty gave St Mirren a sensational 1-0 Homecoming Scottish Cup quarter-final victory over Celtic - a week after the Buddies lost 7-0 at Parkhead in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League.

There were 55 minutes played when Celtic captain Stephen McManus felled Craig Dargo inside the box and English striker Mehmet sent Artur Boruc the wrong way from the spot.

Celtic threw everything forward, especially in the latter stages, in a bid to keep their hopes of a domestic treble alive, but the Buddies defended resolutely to book their semi-final spot.

The final whistle brought elation to the home fans among the crowd of 5,925 and also to goalkeeper Chris Smith who made up for his Parkhead nightmare with a fine save at the end from a Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink header to prevent a replay.

Just thought I would share a bit of GOOD news after last weeks terrible result. :o

Ex -cue- se- moi OK OK a little battle was lost BUT we WILL still WIN the war ..... come the end of season, you must let the "LITTLE" clubs have their day so the league is interesting.

WELL done Arsenal - BUT who is STILL top of the League by 4 points and game in hand >???? :P

Come on Man Utd.. :D

Yes great meeting all at Crossbar even with the bad result. Hope to see more people at the next one.
