Does anyone have any info about the new bus station in Chiang Rai? Just read in BKK Post that it opened recently.

Is it up and running?

Can you go to Mae Sai from there or do you take the bus from the old bus station in town?

Is it only for long distance trips?

Do the buses to Chiang Mai go from there?

Is there a food court there or a 7-11?

I called into the new bus station on Friday and took a few pics which are on the other bus thread.

The word is that buses traveling "within the province" will still leave from the old station.

There were a few buses leaving and arriving when I was there but not a lot. I'd say that the system is still in the throes of change.

I suggest a trip into town and inquire there.
