CHIANG RAI : A villager was wounded when the roof of a petrol station collapsed as a freak storm slammed three districts of Chiang Rai, causing widespread damage to more than 1,000 houses on Thursday.

A villager rushed to seek refuge at a petrol station in Thoeng district, but the roof structure caved in, injuring the villager and causing damage to five petrol pumps and three parked motorcycles, witnesses said.

The storm peeled off house roofs and forced many residents in Thoeng district to rush to safety.

No comments from anyone in Toeng then. Were 20 Kms away, was quite a wind , lost a few trees in the area as we seem to do every year at this time. I suspect the lost roofs were the dodgy lightweight tin or sheet aspestos type roofs that I unfortunately also have on my shed. :o
