lannaman Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 This is good news for fans of Tesco. But what a crazy location! The parking at Srisaimun Market is impossible already, especially since the enlarged 7/11 opened there. I was hoping that Lotus Tesco would herald more British grub, but no, not a lot different from BigC in the variety of it's fare. I expect there will be other branches opening in the city.
sceadugenga Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 Hope they will sell celery same same that one at Mae Sai does.... Keep us informed re: opening day, may be good promotions/specials on offer.

The premises does not look a lot bigger than an average 7/11, so I doubt whether we will be in for celery. Have you tried to grow it? - probably too hot here. I'll try to keep you posted when I see it about to open, but i'm going away for a few days next week, so maybe other Crai members can watch out too. It may well be only a day or two judging by the speed they put 7/11s together.
sceadugenga Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 I'll probably go in tomorrow to do a little shopping at the market and Big C, I'll have a look around then.
sceadugenga Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 Where is it going to be? I had an unsuccessful search down between the main market and the river. Is that where we're talking about?
lannaman Posted April 3, 2009 Author Posted April 3, 2009 Where is it going to be?I had an unsuccessful search down between the main market and the river. Is that where we're talking about? No no you were far out. Go south from Hayaak on the Super Highway and take the Wiang Chai Road at Srisaimun intersection, then (about 50mts)through another set of lights and TESCOs is on the left. Local spit-chicken vendor opposite informed me it is opening on the 8th. They were fitting it out with shelving this evening so it could well be earlier.
sceadugenga Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 Right, I think I've got it, coming from Chiang Mai you turn right at the first lights after Big C.
mcgriffith Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 Well now you can just pin it on the all new Google map for Chiang Rai....

The highway number at Srisaimun intersection is 1233
Limbo Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 The second Chiang Rai Tesco Lotus is, as the rumours say, going to be at Den Haa at the Rayotha Road almost opposite the Seven/11. The one in Phan is very good, also relatively small but a very well balanced assortiment. Competition is always good! Limbo

Seem as if Greed over rode, reasoning.
lannaman Posted April 10, 2009 Author Posted April 10, 2009 The open has been postponed until 12th (as per the notice on the door). Good to know that there will be one at Denha as I teach there, and good to know that Limbo is impressed with the one at Pahn.

I bet the local vendors are none too happy about it. My wife suggested I camp outsite it, to be the first in the door when they open!
