Since there is a new busstation in Chiang Rai, what happened to the old busstation ? Or is it still alive and kickin' ?

At the moment it's being used by buses running within the province.

I suspected they maybe, it seemed like the best place for them to leave from.

leaving chiang rai for bangkok 2 weeks ago from the new bus station, a cop came on board while at the station, checked my baggage and asked what I was doing in chiang rai and where i was from.

tickets are still sold at the old station, but longer journes must be boarded at the new station.

a tuk tuk should be no more than 50 baht to the new station.
