Marriage To A Farang

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I am working in Thailand, with work permit and all relevant qualifications. I am a 32 year old South African.

I am very keen to get my fiancee out here to live with me. I will be getting married to her in April next year (2006 in SA). I know that should she come here (not qualified to work) she will have to run as a tourist. This obviously would not be desirable for all the reasons we are no doubt aware of.

What are the possibilities of having some form of civil ceremony in Thailand and her being on my "papers" as it were. Do you think this is possible? Or do I need to get a marriage certificate from home?

Any help forthcoming would be appreciated.

p.s. this situation arose because of a woman's perogative to make calls as they see them.

Until you get married she would have to come as tourist.

After you have tied the knot she can apply for a Non-Imm O visa based on her marriage to you.

some form of civil ceremony

If you mean not a legal marriage it would not help. You could, however, perform a legal marriage here with the same procedure used to marry a Thai except both parties will have to get Embassy documents/translations done. And that can be done on a tourist visa.

Many thanks. :o
