What makes you think Custer wasn't the stupid one? Arrogance and lack of comprehension of one's enemies is not down to experience being overcome by stupidity. If anything, you could say that it was Sitting Bull whose experience overcame stupidity :)

I have a feeling you have mis-interpreted my post, or more likely I have not stated it very well.

I actually think Custer was both arrogant and stupid, although still a very experienced soldier, if my memory serves me right, he was a very luck and in some ways extraordinarily incompetent, hence my point, poorly executed if you excuse the pun, that experience is not the crowning glory of any one persons armoury.
