Is anyone in Hua Hin happy with their broadband internet provider? Care to share?

I have just moved into the area and have been looking at options for my TT&T line. I went to their office and saw that Ji-Net Compax, CS-Lox Advance, ISSP Homepack, and True are available. (Hi-net was also available, but no one seems to be happy with them.)

I mainly need to access sites in the US (including Searchfeed.com, which is on Thailand's censored list). Considered using a proxy, but it would be best if my ISP didn't babysit my surfing.

Anything moderately faster than a dial-up modem would be okay for the next 6 months. I didn't realize what a pain in the bum it would be here

The government forces all ISPs to block web sites on the official no-no list, based on a clause in the ISP licence which requires cooperation with the regulator (CAT). The penalty for non-compliance is suspension of business for 5 days. The penalty for a second offence is cancellation of the ISP's licence. So you won't find any ISP's ignoring the block list.

ADSl is still a lottery here in Thailand and will remain so until the monopoly of CAT on the internationa links is broken.

If you find a site Blocked.

Go to the 'cmd" level on your pc and 'ping' the site by name.

Write down the ip address and use that when you want to access the site.

They only block by changing the dns table.

Thanks for the info.

I signed up with Ji-net 528/256 for 2,450 per month. The ADSL line supposedly has a 1:9 contention ratio not including myself (I didn't quite believe this, but I'm willing to give it a shot).

True is temporarily suspending new sign-ups in Hua Hin. I suspect that their lines are overloaded and they need to upgrade.

In the meanwhile, I've switched from a 1222 unlimited to a T-Net unlimited card (998, which somehow doesn't block some of the sites that 1222 did... it's also never busy, unlike 1222)

Hope everything works out! (If it doesn't I'm stuck for 6 months)
