Pattaya - Hua Hin Ferry

Saw a job ad in Pattaya recently for hostesses to work on a new fast ferry service to Hua Hin. I seem to remember a few years ago some travel agents were advertising 2-day packages from Patts with an overnight in HH but don't think it ever got off the ground (ono the water?).

Does anyone have any news on this?

There was a lot of discussion last year on the local Hua Hin forum about this ferry starting up, but the consenses was it would probably be impractical to operate due to the sea conditions at certain times of the year making the crossing impossible.

As far as I know there is no terminal ever been built in Hua Hin to service passengers, so I would say the project has been shelved again.

Also that company website that the link is provided for is only under construction, plus the fact it is now May 09 (5 months past the operating date) would mean to me there will be no service for some time yet.

Patin, there are other ways to get there than by boat. Based on your friendly invitation, I plan on setting up shop there very soon, along with my my paid harem of nud_e belly dancers, PM for more info ... In fact, expect many many fun loving punters from Pattaya to invade your virgin territory.

It only takes 3.5 hours or less to drive Hua Hin to Pattaya taking the southern bypass around Bangkok. I don't know why anyone would bob around on a boat for three hours or more to get here?

Trust me, if there was money to be made it would be operating.

And what about ferry:Pattaya/BKK-KohSamui/Panghan? it was going for sometime, but not long?Anybody knows?

One reason to use it, is safety.Travel by bus takes a lot of nerves,if you are aware of some major crash recently,

and they always happen. This way of transport - by sea is weather dependant, but safer - in case of disaster, you can swim,

water is not cold, like in NorthAtlantic.I do not understand why it is dead in LOS?

On west shores of LOS it has pick-up recently and you can do island hopping on Andaman Sea,even you can cross the border

in this way.East long shore? - completely nothing, with the exception of jet skiing.

I suspect some serious beuroucratic obstacles, what else?indolence and lack of imagination in our host nation?

I am afraid its similar problem, like lack of any public transport in ChiangMai:why???TiT...easy answer..,I would say:very big village, with many cars...

Is this duration about right ? Got to go soon and people have suggested 5 hours, 4 hours and now 3.5 hours. Will be driving fast'ish by just with the odd toilet stop ?

Cheers,

Yes, 3.5 hours HH centre to Pattaya Klang (Carrefour) via southern bypass.

Split the gas cost with a buddy and no ferry will match the cost or save much time.

And how much demand is there, actually? Don't hold your breath on this one, folks.

Demand might pick up if the ferry would be equipped with a casino and other gambling facilities.

Yes, a Casino (if one could get that past the laws here) would probably be the only way it would work as the money they would make from the gambling may keep them afloat (pun intended). Boats, like planes, are expensive to maintain and run and to make an operation like that viable it has to be full most of the time and there just isn't enough demand for that kind of service... the same reason they stopped running flights from Bangkok to Hua Hin. An average of two or three passengers, even on a fourteen passenger plane, will not pay the bills. The last time I met a commercial flight in Hua Hin, my two friends and one other passenger were on it. There was no one waiting to board so the plane probably went back to BKK empty. The ferry would have the same problems.
