Delia Smith

You mean her cooking was still alive

But then "The Prisoner" burst onto our screens when I was ten and I "put away childish things". Suddenly I wanted a dark blazer with white piping and, crucially, a Lotus 7. KAR 120C

I always wondered if the writers of "The Magic Roundabout" were using something recreational but, in the case of "The Prisoner", I think the question is not "if" but "what".

Oh wow, The Prisoner. I saw it in my teens though, when the did re-runs. Loved it so much I took a car trip to Wales to Port Merion to "The Village".

oh and... Patrick Patrick McGoohan... :)

Yeah, it's a hel_l of a place isn't it, eek? Full of atmos if you're a bit of a fan. Still, I 'spose that while I was going all gooey over the car, you were going all gooey over something else entirely... :D:D

Ready, Steady, Go ( Had a slightly less boyish crush on Cathy McGowan. Where are you now?)

She is doing well.

And still looking pretty damned good to me. :D

Home-grown stuff: Dr Who (William Hartnell and Patrick Troughton)

Noggin the Nog

It's a Square World

Blue Peter (Had a bit of a boyish crush on our Val)

Ready, Steady, Go ( Had a slightly less boyish crush on Cathy McGowan. Where are you now?)

"The weekend starts here" with 5-4-3-2-1 in the background. Were you a Mod?

Well, a sort of honourary mod. My older brother had the Lambretta, the Small Faces and Who LPs and all the clothes to go with them. I just sort of soaked it all up. :)

Went there as part of the wish list on a car trip/holiday where my bf and I travelled around the backroads, and small towns, and villages, in the UK for a couple of months, (majority of the time sleeping in the car and cooking outside). Got to see places I always wanted to, such as Stonehenge and some of the "white horses" and things. Lots of backroads and searches for places where weird and wonderful and strange stories were attached..like ghost sightings, and Marc Bolan's tree . Still have the original old map book we used, marked off with places. Decided to do it before starting Uni (was a late starter :D). Was (if i recall correct), the hottest summer on record. Unforgettable trip!

Well, the two-tone suits and Ben Sherman sounds a bit Suedehead, but the parka and desert boots, yeah! :D

Sounds like an idyllic time. And even with a couple of months, there's still so much to see. Apart from the last three years, I lived there all my life but I still have a list as long as your arm of places that I want to visit. Haven't been to Marc Bolan's tree though. To be honest I don't know where it is. In or near London somewhere? I know he wasn't driving (he never learned) and the driver was a woman, I think. Both sloshed, apparently, and neither wearing seatbelts. Mini, wasn't it? One musician's grave that I really do want to visit someday is Nick Drake's. I've loved his music for a long time now. My daughter's getting into it lately too in a big way.

Funny how the hols you look back upon with the greatest affection are those when you were pretty borassic, isn't it? :D

Who could ever forget Nonie Hazelhurst in Play School, but I was 18 at the time. :)

One Man and His Dog
One man and his dog.

Pay attention Tigg's :)

yeah...this show has been mentioned twice; it's the sheep herding show with a shepherd dog rounding up and corralling a bunch of sheep with the shepherd (human) controlling the dog's movements with whistles...right?

fellow Americans take note; this show alone is proof that british TV is superior in all ways to US drivel...never seen or heard of nothin' like it (the idea alone is fantastic - as in fantasy) and useta watch it religiously when I lived in the UK 10 years ago...only in England!

Tutsi. I really need to know. Did you really like it or are you having a wind up? :)

I eat a large curry watching the Lions ( appalling referee ) My wife said I had the " wind up " all night.

And New Zealand.

Mr BoJ, I ain't kiddin'; One Man and his Dog is a truly remarkable show for a number of reasons one of which is that it manages to present the mundane (herding sheep) in a totally engaging fashion. The skill of the animals and their handlers is facinating. The show is photographed nicely with the white sheep against a green background, usually in blustery weather and you feel nice and comfy inside in front of the box...usually presented on a weekend?

I also liked to watch the darts competitions with the high drama...the amiable, dumpy scot Jocky whatisname against the arrogant and supercilious (and English) Eric whatisname (late 80s/early 90s)...etc.

and who can forget Dr Who?...I was in pain in front of the TV with the worst hangover that I had ever had one morning in N. California and here comes the episode 'Stones of Blood'; bein' useta US high tech sci-fi I thought that I was hallucinating - no attempt whasoever to have any realistic special effects, a corny set right out of a kids' show and an outrageous plot/script...it WAS like being on acid...I was hooked (but only to the Tom Baker series...I developed an obsession for the Lalla Ward 'Romana' assistant...).

also nice watchin' films (good ones) on the BBC WITHOUT COMMERCIALS!

no kiddin', all the US cop and glamor shows in the world cannot compete...really! :D

Being in my twenties when TV was introduced into our area of Oz ,I am not qualified to answer ( although some reckon I was still a bit of a lad in my fifties ).

But I used to enjoy The Samurai , a B&W japanese blood and guts show from about 50 years ago. :)

Ditto ( no idea what he's talking about , but hey Tiggs likes it )
