Walking Street Blocked Off This Afternoon?

Featured Replies

Tried to drive down walking street today but the main entrance and all the side soi's to walking street were blocked off by police, also quite a lot of media/press hanging around. a handfull of large tanker type trucks parked up along beach road.

Any one know why? I guess maybe anti flu measures.

Yes I noticed it blocked off too.

Maybe they are going to give the area a really good clean. :)

You are quite correct, they are cleaning up in an attempt to halt the spread of the flu, although the term "chocolate fireguard" comes to mind! :)

This is pure theater folks. While avoiding large gatherings is advisable right now, just washing the street is just to make a show of doing something because the money powers that be here are seriously desperately worried about tourism dying off here. Controlling the spread of this bug is a difficult and complex thing, but this is pure Barnum and Bailey.

BTW, the current virus is indeed mild most people are not in mortal danger from it. However, it is a good public health measure to try to limit its spread. That gives scientists and governments more time to deal with the next waves after mutation, which may be more lethal.

Just seen six shiny brand new bright yellow tanker trucks lined up ready for something in BKK

surrounded by bib off course

:)

Well a good scrubbing of WS and the Beach Road environs certainly can't do any harm. However, without the smell of rotting food and urine, I may become disoriented the next time I'm down there.

Wow!!! Finally someone who understands why this "FLU" could become dangerous and the need for health measures to be taken.

Just came back from Phuket, Patong Beach today.

Yesterday they had a drill in their version of walking street (Bangla Road) involving tanker trucks, guys in coveralls and masks spraying some kind of chemical, BIB, media etc.

It was some kind of emergency response drill.

Sounds like the same thing.

I hope they clean place well, especially those go-go bars, the offel smell that comes out that places when you walk by them.
