"chic and cheap" are relative terms so it might be better for referrals to understand your definition and budget.

I too prefer modern, contemporary with sleek lines, like much of the designs from Italy. I'm also unwilling to pay import prices but want the same style and quality.

If you're interested, check out where I shop, UOMO. He's a thai designer who's trained in Italy and has his own showroom (see contact info below) where he builds (not imports) his own furniture. He also is an interior designer if you need help there too.

Other points, he's very professional, speaks English well, and can point you to some other stores that can provide accessories like lighting and so forth.

PM me if you want a copy of the catalog. His name is Pop and let him know that Vit sent you!

Can you post a few of their prices for basics such as a modern couch and chair. Them type of western type things would also help me in the coming months as we are about the make our payments for our new condo as well.

I would'nt call index cheap, been out and about lookin to buy a 3 piece leather suite today, and all there leather furniture is double the price of furniture from all the other shops in MBK..

Dont get me started on lazyboy either, what a fookin rip off, 53k for a shitty 3 seater re-cliner that looks like the 3 seperate pieces that make it up will fall to bits after a week or so not to mention the 1 month wait for delivery..

A girl in another shop offered 51k for 2 single seat recliners and a 3 seat sofa, which were twice as comfy and well made as teh lazyboys :o

I'm planning to go bangkok to shop for furniture also, can you share your experience? is it worth to ship back to singapore?

I just had a catalog from one of the shops in seacon square. You can check the prices and decide if it is worth the hassle. There are a few wardrobe specialists with great fixtures and workmanship too, the scale and manner they present the products are great, something that is missing in Singapore.
