How... convinient. :D

I just returned from a diving trip to Koh Tao, time to pick a few photos to post here.

No underwater shots - not fair

I CAN'T SWIM! :D

And neither can my camera :)

That's the point of diving, you sink.

All photos taken with a Canon G10 camera in an underwater case using the internal flash (yuck!) and an external focus light to make focusing a bit faster.

It was my first time taking pictures while diving so I still need to improve a lot...

My girlfriend hovering around the Chumporn Pinnacle, shoot at F/4, 1/2500th exposure and ISO 400. I suppose I could have used lower ISO and higher aperture.

F/4, 1/60th, ISO 400 and flash. Some soldierfish and redcoats in Hin Ngma Bay.

F/4, 1/320th and ISO 200, also with flash. A pink anemonefish and his anemone at White Rock.

I wouldn't be upset about my pictures been deemed out of competition, although I'd like to hear Monkfish's opinion about it.

However I think an exclusively underwater challenge wouldn't have many participants. :)

Ok;

I intend to post 3 images, this is a still from the Camcorder. The title is Beautiful Water" simple this water we can drink, it goes to our rice crops and our animals drink from it. post-73397-1250440743_thumb.jpg

The next two I need to remove a proportion of the Exif data, as it contains personal information.

Number 2 is "Dirty Water"

Where I come from on the African Continent we see this all the time, and the stuff tempts us all, and drinking the stuff will kill you. This image is about 400 meters from the first image.

Finally "Fun Water" it may be a decorative fancy, relaxation or entertainment, but we all know how important it is for us all. This image was either yesterday or today and 25 meters from "Dirty Water"

I feel the subject of water is the theme, so the dive photo's are good for me also. I had a few that went into the dustbin like a half empty water bottle on the floor of the "Rot" and a policeman standing in the rain. I wanted to use "Fun Water" as I have a little video essay on the editing bench now.

Thank you and I hope you have enjoyed my entries.

Great shots! Thanks for sharing!

Loads of color, loads of texture and loads of WATER so why should they be out of the competition?

Keep shooting :)

I can't remember exactly :) I can tell you that it is 100% h2o, and that the only PP it's had is a bad crop and slight levels adjustment. No PP special effects at all. Creative lighting and the homemade canvas helped a lot to create the effect.

Great effect! did you use wax or oil?

That is what I was thinking

Okay, this is what I did.

Dismantled picture frame to get at the glass plate to use as a base.

Tried at first to outline the letters with an oily finger and then adding water. (failed)

Coated the glass with a very thin layer of wax just buy rubbing a candle on it and smoothing over with my fingers.

Engraved the letters using a wooden meat skewer, cleaned the letters with a q-tip and tried to remove all loose bits of wax.

Placed the 'template' on a black stool (one with ventilation holes) with a dim light under it. Raised the template about 1cm by placing it on 2 AA batteries, raising the template in this way increases the shadows and reflections giving a more 3D effect.

Started filling the engraved letters with water drop by drop using a syringe. Once the letters were semi filled I tried to position the whole setup in a way that it would make the reflection of the H look like a tap in the background and the reflection of the fluorescent light look like running water going through the middle of the image. Once in position I continued adding drops of water to the letters. The wax causes enough retention to allow the lettering to be filled so much. Added a few drops to pimp it up a bit :)

Set up the tripod and put cam on super macro/no flash and took a few shots. I was able to slightly lower the corner closest to the lens and shot with the camera at an angle on the tripod giving the image a vertical feel to it.

Easy really :D

Truly Fabulous - an enormous amount of effort well rewarded with the outcome.

Full of admiration for your vision and application in this.
