Hi All,

We're flying into Bangkok with our luggage and also 2 bikes that are boxed up. Don't really want the hassle of lugging them around with us since we have 3 days in BKK before we Nok it up to CM. Is there an option to mail them from Suvarnabhumi to our home in CM? Would it be expensive? Thanks for your help!

Can also store them at a reasonable cost at the airports long term storage place.

Nok will probably charge a fair bit to take bikes. One nice option is the train. Saves some money because its only a low fee.

No idea about mailing it cost wise or choices.

get a songthow from swampypoom ( NOT a taxi ) and take your bikes to moo chit bus station in BKK . one hour at the most.

send them to chiang mai bus station ONLY .... AND NOWHERE ELSE ... when you arrive in chiang mai your bikes will be waiting for you in a week ... 2 weeks or three weeks or whenever you get there ? ... the same goes for motorbikes and costs are zilch .

re .. So, it would take a week? Would they be safe?

no ... your bikes would arrive in chiang mai in two or three days and your bikes would stay at the rail station untill you arrive to collect them in 1 week , 2 weeks or 3 weeks

Would they be safe?... probably yes ... but #hit happens ... in thailand you have to pray and hope things or plans work ...

if it doesnt and some somchai decides to steal them ... your the looser... wave bye bye to your bikes .... thats life !

I don't know how big your bike boxes are, but I regularly mail 22kg boxes from the airport to a CM post office 'poste restante'.

Costs about 300bt each...

They are open 24/7

Usually takes just a couple of days

Hmmm, I've seen motorcycles of the "normal" Thai size, about 150 cc, being mailed by Thai Post, don't see why they'd not accept a bicycle in a box. Only problem might be the Thai Post outlet at Swampy accepting them for shipping.

Anyone going to Swampy able to Q the Thai Post folks there?

Also, might be useful to know the measurements and weight of the boxes.

Oh they're larger than I expected - about the usual size of a bicycle. And roughly 25 kg each...

I have send my motorbike with a normal bus company from bkk to chiang mai and it cost me 1.500 it was there overnight for me to pick up

I don't know whether Suvanbhumi Airport has a full facility Post Office but I do know that Thai Post will move full size furniture, refrigerators, etc.

Several months ago a Thai relative moved a whole house of furniture from Chonburi City to a fairly isolated village in Roi Et. (Several bedrooms, living room stuff, refridgerator, washing machine, boxes of clothing, two motorcycles and two or three bicycles).

- Chonburi PO supervisor very quickly sent someone to the house to get full details of size / scope / app. weight , etc, and a quotation was given on the spot. No hesitation to accept everything, gasoline had to drained from motorcyles.

- I can't recall the cost but it was surprisingly quite cheap and included full packing by PO staff (same materials, boxes etc., as professional removal companies use), and full unpacking, etc.

- All delivered to the village house and unpacked within 48 hours, nothing damaged, nothing opened, nothing missing.

Very impressed.

I flew in to Suvarnabhumi a few weeks ago on an international flight with two large suitcases (approximately 20 kilos each). Since I was flying down south on Air Asia, I opted to mail the large bags from the post office at the airport rather than pay overweight. Each bag cost about 200 Baht to send. The bad part is that it took about a week for them to get here. And I had to go to the post office here in town to pick them up since the mailman obviously couldn't deliver them on his motorbike. But overall, I think it was a good deal and I'd do it again.

By the way, the post office in the airport is open 24 hours.

There you go, you can mail your bikes ahead. From another forum,

"There is a post office at the departures level (4) far right at the back of the terminal, close to immigration counters. As far as I know, it's open 7 days a week, 24 hours a day."

Right you are, NanLaew, and that's just what we did. The bikes arrived today - one was 17.5 kilo, the other 18.5 kilo, and they shipped for 800 baht total for both (not each). Thanks for the tips!
