I am Canadian with Thai common-law wife, living in Lamphun. We are waiting for immigration papers from Canada Embassy in Singapore, to allow my wife to move to Canada with me -- I am not certain how long this will take..

I am planning to apply for a Retirement Visa, but am waiting for bank papers to arrive from Canada ( income proof) and then need to drive to Canada Embassy in Bangkok for affidavit. This will take another month to complete

I am currently on a 3 x 60 days tourist visa, using the last of the three entries, with expiry September 25. I can go to Thai Immigation ( in Chiang Mai) and get a 30 day extension now -- is this true ?

.. or can I go to Mae Sai -- cross into Mayanmar -- and then reenter with only my passport -- do I get 30 day or 15 days ? I know if I enter normally with no visa I get 30 days, but if I reenter immediately I only get 15 days .

Is it best to get the extension now, and use the Mae Sai visa run if I need to extend further.

Any advice and clarification would be greatly appreciated

Apply for a 30 day extension at Immigration a few days before your stay expires.

Entering at a land crossing will give you 15 days whenever you do it.

For what it is worth living with your Girlfriend means nothing in Thailand Immigration wise.

I thought it was going to be changed soon and the airport was also going to only be 15 days instead of 30, did I hear incorrectly?

This is news to me. What is your source?

Please state your source. You never know, but it doesn't seem logical to change the policy as it will hurt the tourist industry considerably.
