BANGKOK – Muang Thong United set a Thailand Premier League attendance record with club media confirming that 13,000 fans turned up at the Thunderdome Sport Complex to watch the TPL leaders defeat Bangkok Glass 1-0 on Sunday.

The figure eclipses the previous record of 9000, set on August 2 when Rajnavy Rayong lost 2-1 at home to Muang Thong United, who opened up a three point lead at the top of the TPL standings following their victory over the Glass Rabbits which came courtesy of Teerasil Dangda’s ninth minute goal.

The high-flying promoted side lead AFC Cup quarter-finalists Chonburi, who lost ground on the table-toppers after only managing a 1-1 draw with Bangkok United.

Good to see some support for local grass roots (don't mean to be patronizing...) football, instead of just sitting around watching EPL on the gogglebox. The heat is a problem though.

Accompanied by some of the UBC EPL money could finding it's way to supporting the growth of Thai football would be good for the nation, and their chances of reaching a World Cup finals...

Hopefully football in Thailand continues to improve, and they can compete for AFC honors more.

Winning the AFC Champions League is the goal of Muang Thong coach Robert Procureur. They are doing really well, but they still have so far to go to compete with Japanese and Australian clubs.

I don't see any reason why Thailand can't be a major football nation in Asia eventually.
