Camera Repairs

Featured Replies

hi there

anyone know where there is a camera repair centre in central BKK?

My Olympus digital camera is still under warranty but seems to be draining the battery quickly. The warranty agents (jebsen and Jebsen) claim its the charger (which only has a 6 month warranty), but i don't think it is because the camera is indicating that the battery is fully charged when i chareg it and put it in the camera.

Is there any way to check if the charger is working. I assume it shouldn't be difficult, just check the voltage....but where does one buy a voltmeter in BKK? Pantip?

Problem is the warranty expires in about a week, so i suspect they will put me off until its expired and then not be responsible for the repair. However if i can find another repair centre maybe i could get 2nd opinion

any help appreciated

cheers

You can buy a voltmeter at most Lotus stores - or Home Pro - or probably department stores. You would check the fully charged battery but you would need to reference good one to compare with.

Camera likely shows full charge for some time so not a good indication that battery is really fully charged.

I would consider buying a new battery before anything else - you can always use an extra and if it lasts OK you have no further expense. If not the two may be all you need. If not I would consider a new charger as should not be expensive. You do have your camera set to shut down between shots to save battery life?

thanks lopburi

i initially thought it was a dud battery, so i bought a new one, but the same thing happened. A new charger is 1700B. Just reluctant to buy a new one if there is nothing wrong with the old one.

But it is interesting what u say about the battery not being fully charged just becasue the camera indicates that it is. I'll get a voltmeter and see what its putting out.

cheers

At 1,700 baht I can well understand - that is more than many cameras that come with chargers. Now I remember why I told myself many years ago that I would never buy another product from that import firm. I would check Ebay if you really need rather than pay that.

The Olympus repair centre is out by the Lao Embassy up along Ramkhaemheng and then some. Turn left just before the university if I remember right.

It's quite a hike but best go straight to them if the warranty is expiring soon.

Hi Folks,

I have an Oly-E3 and before this an Oly 8080 (which I still have) same batteries, but I did notice from the old Oly 8080 to the E3 that batteries do last far, far longer than before. Got a spare one for around 4,000 baht, year or two ago, original, Made in Japan. :D

As for the charger, I have two and both charge up the batteries the same, so to my thinking and using these batteries it is not the charger, but "The Made in China". :)

Yours truly,

Kan Win :D
