There are a lot of comments on Thai Visa about having to report every 90 days and how stupid

it seems. As well as some hassle if you live far away from an immigration office

Being an elderly retiree, unable to drive anymore. Some time ago, I complained about this to an immigration official. And he asked me why I bothered to do the 90 day reporting myself, since anyone can do it for me. All is needed is a short note authorising the person to do my reporting.

Ever since then I have sent my maid and had no problem. You do not need to have any excuse for not reporting your self. But of course inquisitive officials often asked and I told her to simply tell them that I was too busy.

Most retirees employ someone so they can always send them. The forms can be downloaded from the internet. No picture or money is required. Those with marriage visa can send thier wife or teenage child to do the reporting if they don't want to do it them self. There is a14 day window for reporting (7 days before and after the date). If you don't have a wife or a servant a friend can also do it.

So my point is that there really is not so much to complain about and my reason for this post is because I think a lot of people don't realise that you can send anyone to do your reporting

By law there is a -7/+7 reporting window from due date, but some immigration offices apply own rules. If reporting by mail, report has to be there by due date. There is no +7 day window.

Splendid idea, I was wondering whom I could release from the domestic staff this afternoon?, maid/nanny/chauffeur/cook/gardener- "I should cocoa" :)

PS: 90 DAY reporting is not stupid!, early this year one of the Thai Immigration Police's top Generals was quoted as saying " It is important that we know where all the foreigners are living!"- hence the reporting.

Some of the "medical tourism" type of hospitals here in Bangkok offer the 90 day reporting to anyone whose ever gone to the hospital before, and some do it even if you've never went but only want to use their reporting service.

I called around and it seems their current pricing has increased to 500 baht since Thai Immigrations has moved from Suan Plu to Changwattana.

Bumrungrad 02-667-1000

Samitivej Hospital 02-392-0011

Sunbelt Asia and most of the other businesses who facilitate foreign endeavors here also do it for a fee.

But posters are correct in that just about anyone can take your passport and T.M.47 form out there for the 90 reporting.

That some posters say it is a stupid thing is completely irrelevant to this thread. Live here follow their rules; no matter how oxymoronic they may seem to you.

Believe me if next year Immigrations passes a rule saying you must wear bright green Croc brand clogs to apply for a visa, my advice is to suck it up and go by them; not to bitch, piss & moan about it.

Actually it would be a good thing because once tens of thousands of executives (eg. including the Chairman of Toyota Thailand, Seagte etc. etc) suddenly realise that they are supposed to waste half a day every 3 months on this outdated moronic regulation, that would be the end of it and no one would have to do it anymore.

No one has to do 90 day reporting personally, and there are alternative options which most 'busy' people use. The 90 day reporting requirement is written into the Immigration Act, so any change would require an amendment to the law.

I know very few business executives working for major companies who are even remotely familiar with the reporting, work permit, visa regulations and/or the intricacies of what needs to be done, where and when.

Mundane things like this are routinely handled for them by either the legal division in their company or the law firm representing it.

I don't think it's a bad idea, maybe the U.S. and other countries would be better off to implement something similar. As stated, there are ways to minimize the inconvenience.

The problem is that it is a total waste of resources and energy and could be easily done by 21st century means (phone/internet) if negative reporting is really felt to be a requirement/productive. Until recently it was not even enforced so do not believe new laws are required.

Had a word with gardener chauffeur head cook and bottle washer aka the wife

She is of the opinion that if I cannot be botheed to desisit from delights of jazz Soccer and Thai visa every ninety days their may may be adivorce or a hike inthe monthly allowance as the trip in fancy dress well a pressed shirt and always leads to a slap up meal and shopping spree in town.

I think mrs Johnny woud have me report daily if only to get me out of the house during the sweeping hour!

Seriously with all these gadgets twitter sms net etc driving and filling in paper seems redundant.

If they merely want to know where we are report to an ATM on their database daily or stick a chip in us at Swampy !

It's not abig deal for me bar one must now go to the local office which removes spontaneity of when to be sick or visit friends.

How anachronistic when I can shop surf and read news 24/7 across borders that when in Bangkok instead of the one stop shop I have to make abiblical 1200km trek to the village where my wife is registered to tell my dear friends at Immi Hi Im still here!.The funny bit is if Id left they would have my exit card.So the logic is they now want to know where we are unlike 2 years ago when at large in Siam was enough

'

As for older members without partners or "staff' its one more hassle, sure a neighbour or Nop at the farm may promise but of course they may go to a Pitti and forget or loose the passport etc.I think a DTAC chip stapled to the earlobe is the way forward and as fashion accessory woud distinguish us from mere tourists a sort of O or Non O contradistinction.

Phew time for atincture.

Redundant? As are the copies upon copies of photos, passports, proof of this or that etc etc etc that we provide EVERY TIME. No wonder they need so many people employed at Immigration. Somebody needs to do the filing.

How about reporting when changing reisdence???

Internet would be ok too but some might consider that one could do that from anywhere, but then zgzin, since one doesn't have to declare in person.....

It might avoid a lot of paperwork
