Tukcom Computer Center Raided By Police

Featured Replies

Police raided the storage warehouse of the large TukCom Computer Center in South Pattaya on Sunday, finding almost 40,000 pirate CD’s and DVD’s packaged for sale with a street sale value of over 400,000 baht.

Pattaya, 8th of November 2009 (PDN): Police Colonel Sarayuth Songwonphokhai, chief of the Pattaya Police along with Police Lieutenant Colonel Chalermsak Thianthongsri commanded a special operations police team into the TukCom Center on Sunday at approximately 10:00pm, with the intent on searching the 6th (top floor) of the center, which was known to them to contain the warehouse facilities for all the shops in the building.

After searching the entire floor police were able to confiscate altogether about 33,390 illegally pirated CD’s and DVD’s containing Thai and foreign movies, games, karaoke and pornography. The material was found in storage rooms 7,8,9,11 and 22 all of which were in the 6th floor warehouse. The confiscated material is estimated to have a street value in the region of 400,000 baht.

After the raid on the warehouse police packaged and removed all the pirated items as evidence and proceeded downstairs to talk with the TukCom Center Management, who informed police that the storage rooms in question belonged to a shop on the 5th floor of the center, however when police investigated the shop and its vicinity nobody was currently staying their or confessed to being the store owner. All materials will be kept in police custody whilst police investigations continue.

40,000 x 10B = 400,000B

Aren't the dodgy discs going for closer to a 100B a pop?

.....maybe they got a "bulk" discount?

and now an off topic: do you ever check your PM box on TV ?

Maybe it's a hint that they are for sale at 10 baht at their new location. :)

And 33,390 discs isn't close to 40k. It is close to 33k. Or possibly 35k if one has to have nice round numbers.

i'M SO HAPPY TO KNOW THAT WE HAVE SUCH WONDERFULL POLICE :)

Anybody find it odd that there's no mention of pirated operating systems, office software, etc., etc.?

'by mistake' to buy a movie.

Can the public actually gain access to the 6th floor ??

I was in there last week with a mate, he bought a few movies on the 4th level for 100B a pop.

Where do you think they go when they say "Wait a minute" after you hand over the empty packet. :D

Of course Centre management had no idea that these illegal activities were happening on their property. :D

The cops have a second case to solve "The Case of the Disappearing Store Owners and Employees"

Which way did they go? Which way did they go???? :)

They will be too busy to follow up on this as they will be fully engaged in solving the case of The Empty Evidence Locker.

Can't believe there is much of a market for these junk music cds and tv/movie dvds...what with it all that and MUCH MORE (audiobooks, ebooks and magazines, etc.) being available for free online. Haven't paid a satang for digital content (and written stuff too...November issue PC Magazine 400 baht or so at Bookazine...free pdf file download) for years now :)

No discussion of torrent downloads of copyrighted material on Thai Visa thanx.

Mate told me that by Sunday afternoon the retail shops on the 4th (is it?) floor were cleaned out in anticipation of this.

Hi,

Most Music/Movie disks are sold 100 baht

and many shops do "Buy 5, Get 6" (500 baht for 6 movies) and/or have some sort of "fidelity cards" :D

Can the public actually gain access to the 6th floor ??

Yes : Take the lift and press de button with #6 on it :)

I went there once with a vendor but it's only a storage area.

You don't have to go there alone.
