Asians Hating Asians In The West.

Featured Replies

Since I am a CBC I throw in my thoughts.

A sense of identity and belonging. Unfortunately most people are stupid and can only get a sense of self worth by putting down others. So I am xxx (country) and better then yyy (country) cos yyy are (insert derogatory behaviour)

why do this? To get acceptance and be a part of a "community".

I mean as a 2nd generation immigrant (visible minority) where do you belong? To the majority you are still a FOB, to the older generations of your own culture, you are a spoilt westernised kid. You are caught between 2 cultures.

So in some circumstances you "big up" your own people, form your own clique, be differnt not just another chink/gook/wop and like I mention above, most people do that by denigrating others.

Another good question would be how we are viewed by Asians in Asia...

I am 4th gen CBC and I know I am seen as a gwai loh/ang moh. I was just in HK and China and thats what everyone called me. Just wondering what else they are thinking..... not that i really care what people think of me but just curious.

the UGLY Chinaman

There has always been a schism between the
CbCs (
Canadian born Chinese) and some of the newer immigrant Chinese to Canada aka
:
FoBs
(Fresh off the Boats). This snobbery from one group to the other has, and will likely, continue to occur.

It's just human nature to think of one's own group as better than another.

It was from this perspective that I hatched the idea about the ugly nature of some Chinese Canadians, and have some fun sharing our dirt with the rest of the world.
