2,000 blankets for mountain folk

The Rajaprajanugroh Foundation yesterday provided 2,000 blankets to victims of the cold in mountainous areas of Nan's Bo Klua district and Chalerm Phrakiat.

As the mercury dropped to 8-10 Celsius at night on the province's mountaintops, foundation chairman Disathorn Watcharothai presented 1,000 blankets along with some royally granted items to each area's representatives.

The Weather Bureau has warned that temperatures will be 2-4 degrees cooler from today through Tuesday.

they re-run his article every year at this time. If they'd stop giving them blankets every year, maybe they'd stop burning them at the end of "winter". Or do the blankets wear out after two months??

This blanket in winter thing is a crock, IMHO.

How about giving citizenship to the hilltribe folk who have lived here for generations?

How about spending some money for schools and education in remote areas? Instead of leaving it to missionaries and other foreign elements.

It's just a way for the BKK elite to feel good- donate a cheap blanket.

Not a complete crock. Last time they had a blanket give-away in our village the Mrs went and got one for the dog.

If its the same type of Blanket I've seen given away recently, the green ones with the Beer or insurance advertisement on them. can't remember which then your dogs going to be Bloody Cold

I agree if possible even more than 100 %!

This is really where it is all about!

Give these people the chance to help themselves!

Pay them the legal minimum wages, treat them honestly!

Don't say that primary school is enough for a hilltribe kid.

It is ridiculous not to permit them the right to go to secundary school.

Stop 'authorities' harassing them.

Now they are instrumental in creating a profitable niche for rotten eggs.

Every year about two weeks after it has been very cold the same story gets running again.

Two years ago in the Post: "The chief of the Chiang Rai provincial office of disaster prevention and mitigation,

said hundreds of thousands of Chiang Rai residents are in need of blankets and warm clothes. Up to 150,000 blankets and

800,000 items of warm clothing are needed".

About a month after this kind of unburdenings you read that the government has allocated 20 million Baht to the provincial

authorities of Chiang Rai to buy blankets for sixty thousand people or something similar.

Nobody is interested anymore as the sun in the mean time climbed to the top of the sky and blankets are still used only

by those that can afford aircon.

You simply don't hear anything about it anymore untill the year after, about two weeks after the cold peaked.

Or you see a commercial on television where 'simple' mountain people look gratefull at the sky, covered with green

Beer Chang blankets. If you didn't know it yet: Beer Chang cares! It keeps warm!
