Hi,

I'm 26y old french guy.

I moved to Thailand few months ago after my korean wife has been transfered to Bangkok.

I would like to know whether I can get a work permit with a non O visa?

The HR from company which wants to hire me, said it is not possible and that I need a non B visa.

In order to get this non B visa, they told me I have to go France and to apply there. Is it true? Isn't it possible to get a non B visa in any countries with a Thai embassy or consulate?

Thanks in advance

I had a similar problem, the HR lady at the company said I had to go and get a non-b (cancelling my non-o).

She had to be "persuaded" to call the labour department, lo and behold, WP no problem on a non-o.

Also, you don't have to go to France anyway, Penang will issue non-b to anyone with the necessary paperwork.

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

Took me about 2 1/2 hours at the One-Stop W/P and Visa centre.

It went like this.

I had a few months only left on my Non-o

Got the W/P

Got a extension up to 12 months on the Non-o

Got an extension on the Work Permit.

The lady who did the interview for the Non-O extension told me how nice it was to come to Thailand and take care of my wife and her family.

I thought the service (with professional handlers) at the 1-stop was excellent, everyone was polite and it was very easy.

It you look carefully there is also an ISO9001 process on the wall of the 1-stop on how to convert a Tourist Visa to a Non-B. I didn't want to get involved with that, but it also looked easy.

So in Summary, if you can use it and all your paperwork is correct go to the 1-stop, so so so much easier than Suan Phlu and the Labour office.

Thanks all for your answer.

For Mattnich, as my wife is korean and already has a work in Thailand, I can not tell to the immigration officer that getting WP will help me to support my wife and her family. I actually worry that point.

Could you please tell me more about this 1-stop place.
