Will be traveling to Thailand on a 60 day tourist visa later this month. I called the Denver Consulate and talked to a woman named Jen and she was very helpful. I sent passport, application, and photo, Jen say it should take about 3 business days to process and return.

If I enter on tourist visa and during the 60 days decide to make a trip outside of Thailand, upon return is the tourist visa used for reentry or will I be issued a voa for 30 days.

There are options with your tourist visa ---

If you leave the country you can get a re-entry permit and thus keep the visa valid (and extendable), or you can let the visa 'die' by leaving the country with no re-entry permit and you will be allowed the standard visa-exempt entry (assuming you are an American). The visa-exempt entry's length varies depending on how you enter the country, 30 days if you enter by plane and 15 days if overland, I believe.

Agree with the above. Re-entry permit can be obtained from local immigration office. 1000 baht single entry, 3800 baht multiple entry. Note a re-entry permit does not give you any more days; it just keeps the current permission to stay alive.

Did she take the little official consulate sign out of the drawer and put it on the desk when you came in like something out of a Coen Bros' movie? A friend of mine that used them reported that's how it worked, heh.

I have used the Honorary Consulate in Denver twice. Once when I moved here in 2003 for a multi non-imm-ed (I was a legit student at an acccredited university) and the other time in 2007 for a multi-non-o. (I had to translate my documents for them) Both times were fairly painless other than making sure that I scheduled with them appropriately the second time.

I still find the best option for a multi-non-imm visa to be Perth when you live in Thailand and that is the only reason you are traveling.

Thanks jdinasia, forgot about the re-entry permit. Yes in US applied at the Denver, CO. consulate.

I have been living in LOS for a few years now, but I have used the consulate in Boston. You should be able to get a tourist Visa with 2 reentries which would be good for a total of 9 months including your extensions on each entry. This is what i did before settling here. I find consulates in the States to be very flexable when it comes to issuance of Visas. Good luck!

Actually I believe the poster of the above information could be mistaken.

A Double-Entry Tourist Visa has a permission of stay for 60 days on EACH entry. That can be extended inside the kingdom for an additional 30 days, (again for each of the two entries). Of course it goes without saying, you need to leave the kindgom to activate the second entry.

No matter how you count the days; it works out that a double entry tourist visa plus the extra two 30 day extensions equals about 6 months.

I believe he might be referring to a triple entry tourist visa which most US consulates offer now since they've kinda cracked down on just handing out year long non-o's for visiting friends.

That is soo funny as I lived in Denver and used them for my non-o visas when I first came here. They actually have a separate desk with a tiny thai flag on a stand and a placard that says “Honorary Thai Consulate” on the desk. :D

They are great to work with though.. :)

I only need a single entry tourist visa but as Jen explained if I would like double entry tourist visa, supply travel agenda and copy of tickets and we will consider your request. She explained that they have been instructed only to issue single entry unless there was documentation of extensive travel in and out of Thailand.

Thanks to all that have supplied answers and input, just spaced out the re-entry permit if a trip out of country is in the cards.
