February 22, 201016 yr I am American, living in the US. I lived in Thailand as a student missionary 20 years ago and have kept in touch and visited with many of the people I knew and grew to love while living there. One of my friends married and has 3 children, living in Chiang Mai. My family visited with them about a year ago. Here's my question: We have invited her oldest daughter, who will be 17, to come and stay with us this summer (our summer - Jun/Jul/Aug). What is the procedure for making this happen? Is it difficult to obtain a visa for something like this? Do I need to buy a ticket first? Write a letter? I'm pretty much at square one and would appreciate any advice! Thanks!!

Place to start is with the U.S. Embassy Bangkok web page, the "non-immigrant" visa section.US Emb NIV info (Hmmm, that "insert a link" didn't work very well...) In any case, do a Google for it, the procedures are explained there. Main thing is to establish that the gal has a real good reason to return to Thailand after the visit. Mac
