Russia To Hold World Hostage

Russia has no problem whatsoever flexing its muscles by cutting off gas supplies to European countries in the winter if a country does or says something Russia doesn't like. Now with the space shuttle fleet being put into mothballs in the near future the Ruissians will be the only way to and from the Int'l Space Station for a while.

What demands will Russia place on the other countries inolved in the ISS while they have this power? If you know anything about Russia, they won't let this golden opportunity pass by without trying something.

Since Obama effectively cancelled our space program, we now get to hitch a ride with the Russians...and it isn't cheap.

Where did you get all of your degrees? Cut them out from the back of a box of Frosted Flakes?

The ISS isn't just the USA, Russia and the EU. In addition, space exploration benefits all of mankind.

Considering your background I am not surprised that you see nothing wrong with Russia cutting off gas to countries it wants to "punish". The former German Chancellor, uber-corrupt Gerhard Schroeder, codled up to Putin, signed a sweet heart deal for a gas pipeline from Russia to Germany under the Baltic Sea (without asking any of the countries there how they felt about a pipeline passing by their shores) then held an early election he knew he would lose. Once he lost he accepted a high-paying job with the Russian energy giant, GAZPROM.

Don't ya just love politics and the doors it opens?

I reckon there's an answer to your question to ND in the other thread regarding, "What kind of douche bag would....?"

(which is not to say on my part that I think BO is a douchebag).

It must have been Mel Gibson University. :)

Let me see, this Fred started in April, that is about spring time now in Europe going into summer?

when did i say anything about "nothing wrong"? what are the reasons that Russia wants to "punish" any european country except the Ukraine which has problems to pay for its gas and which steals in excess of 20% of its gas consumption from the pipeline which runs through its territority to western Europe.

gospel truth from people who wear blinkers and are scared sh*tless because they see enemies lurking behind every bush, under their beds, in their cupboards and behind their toilets :)

next topic perhaps them Chineese who are the real bad 'uns because they refuse to comply with the demands of their bankrupt beggar debtors?

bring it on! how many cruise missiles do you suggest on Beijing and how many on Shanghai to teach them a lesson? what do you mean they have intercontinental ballistic missiles? a dozen marines under the leadership of Rambo will do the job! the super power North Korea is of course a different animal which has to be treated with utmost caution. even the texan village idiot wasn't dumb enough to make the slightest move.

and then the icing on the cake, namely Eyeran. them dàmn Eyranians have the guts to demand equal rights and that's why they are running "sentryfushes" day and night at different locations. how dare they diversify?! aren't they aware that bunker busters are about to be deployed and that for a simple and easy deployment the "sentryfushes" should be located in one place? aren't they afraid of the (in the meantime years old) threats that their country will (any time from now) be a big flat parking lot (demand from a FAUX News contributor)?

All those courses in Jewish and American Studies at Mel Gibson University have certainly paid off!

Herr Naam what are you trying to do with this reason & logic?

It is not polite to discuss so far above the low orbit reality some have. You will give them bad dreams & have them looking under their beds before sleepy time.

After all some only believe what they are told by those in whom the have full faith, trust & confidence to lead them out to pasture each day & for the yearly sheering. Never do they question.

You seem to take your ideas from your Russian buddies. Gen Pavel "Mercedes" Grachev back in Nov-Dec 1995 said that a single detachment of Russian paratroopers over Grozny could solve the Chechen problem. He got his nickname from all the Mercedes he took with him when the Soviets left East Germany. Maybe you knew him?

I think Russians limiting the flow through the pipelines is the last thing some of you should worry about.

You should concentrate on fighting the domestic financial terrorists that are doing (in their eyes) a great job of spreading democracy poverty.

When one considers Russia has just signed a contract with Hugo Chavez to develop the largest oil reserves outside the Middle East, it would seem prudent to note how Russia has acted in the past.

RUSSIA, VENEZUELA SIGN DEAL TO JOINTLY DEVELOP JUNIN 6 OIL FIELD

05:35 01/04/2010

Russia and Venezuela signed a deal to jointly develop the Junin 6 oil field in the Latin American state, the Venezuelan Energy Ministry said in a statement on Thursday.

The proven reserves of the oil field, located in the Orinoco oil belt, are estimated at 53 billion barrels. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, Venezuela's Orinoco oil belt holds 513 billion barrels of recoverable heavy crude.

The joint venture plans to extract 50,000 barrels of oil per day this year, with a planned nine-fold increase to 450,000 barrels per day.

Last September, Venezuela's state-owned Petroleos de Venezuela (PdVSA) and the Russian Oil Consortium, comprising Rosneft, energy monopoly Gazprom, Lukoil, TNK-BP and Surgutneftegaz, signed a memorandum of understanding on the Junin 6 project.

The parliament of Venezuela approved the deal on March 10.

PdVSA will get a 60%-stake in the joint venture, with the rest owned by the Russian consortium.

Venezuela has the largest proven reserves outside of the Middle East.

The thread is about what Russia will do when they are the only way for anyone to get to/from the ISS. Their gas pipeline policies are a clue how they will handle the role.

It's fine if you have no opinion on it. There are many other threads for you to post on.

Yeah, no shit. Just another Bush policy that Obama is following. It looks like the last shuttle flight is scheduled for this September, 24 years to the day that they wheeled out the Enterprise (10 years to the day the first episode of Star Trek aired). Soon, for the first time in almost 50 years, the Russians will be the only ones putting people in orbit (oh, yeah, and the Chinese).

I wonder how much the USA has been charging other countries for their astronauts to ride on the Space Shuttle?

Cost of U.S. Astronauts' Ride on Russian Rockets Soars

08 April 2010

AP

WASHINGTON — The price for U.S. astronauts to hitch a ride on a Russian spaceship is going sky-high.

NASA on Tuesday signed a contract to pay $55.8 million per astronaut for six Americans to fly into space on Soyuz capsules in 2013 and 2014. NASA needs to get rides on Russian rockets to the International Space Station because it plans to retire the space shuttle fleet later this year.

NASA now pays half as much, about $26.3 million per astronaut, when it uses Russian ships. NASA spokesman John Yembrick said the cost is going up because Russia has to build more capsules for the extra flights. NASA had already agreed to pay as much as $51 million a seat for flights in 2011 and 2012, before the latest increase.

Was the Polish President killed over landmark gas deal?

By Jane Burgermeister

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk is set to seal a key gas deal with Russia’s Gazprom days after the death of opponents to the contract — including Polish President Lech Kaczynski — in a mysterious plane crash in Smolensk, Russia, reports Polskaweb.

Under the contract worth an estimated 100 billion dollars – the biggest business deal in the history of Poland – Poland is to increase its imports of Russian gas.

The contract to buy gas from Gazprom until 2037 will make Poland 100% dependent on Russian gas for the next 28 years in spite of the announcement of the discovery of huge gas reserves in Poland in April just before the memorial service in Katyn, Smolensk.

Launch of secret US space ship masks even more secret launch of new weapon

Rocket_710923a.jpg

Somewhere above earth is America’s latest spaceship, a 30ft craft so classified that the Pentagon will not divulge its mission nor how much it cost to build.

The mysterious X37B, launched successfully by the US Air Force from Cape Canaveral on Thursday, using an Atlas V rocket, looks like a mini-Space Shuttle — but its mission is top secret.

It is officially described as an orbital test vehicle. However, one of its potential uses appears to be to launch a surge of small satellites during periods of high international tension. This would enable America to have eyes and ears orbiting above any potential troublespot in the world.

The X37B can stay in orbit for up to 270 days, whereas the Shuttle can last only 16 days. This will provide the US with the ability to carry out experiments for long periods, including the testing of new laser weapon systems. This would bring accusations that the launch of X37B, and a second vehicle planned for later this year, could lead to the militarisation of space.

US defence officials, who would not say how much the project had cost, insisted, however, that it was “just an updated version of the Space Shuttle activities”.

Thursday’s launch was more about testing the craft, a new generation of silica tile and a wealth of other advances that make the Shuttle look like yesterday’s space technology.

Nasa’s X37B programme began in 1999 and ran until September 2004 when it was transferred to the Defence Advanced Research Projects Agency before being taken over by the US Air Force.

The flight of the X37B is being managed by the US Air Force Space Command’s 3rd Space Experimental Squadron.

“This bird has been through all of the shake, rattle and roll, the vibration tests, the acoustic tests that any spacecraft would go through,” said Gary Payton, Under Secretary of the Air Force for Space Programmes.

With all the focus on the launch of the secret X37B, another space launch by a Minotaur IV rocket from Vandenberg Air Force base in California received less attention.

It was carrying the prototype of a new weapon that can hit any target around the world in less than an hour.

The Prompt Global Strike is designed as the conventional weapon of the future. It could hit Osama bin Laden’s cave, an Iranian nuclear site or a North Korean missile with a huge conventional warhead.

With each major conflict the US military unveils some kind of amazing weaponry or another (those old enough remember watching in awe the smart bombs with little cameras mounted on them in the Gulf War almost 20 years ago). The next thing just might be in the X37B. That said, the part above I put in bold red font is apparently nothing more than the author's own speculation based on nothing but his wild imagination. He should give some source when making a statement like that.

1)This would enable America to have eyes and ears orbiting above any potential trouble spot in the world.

2) This would bring accusations that the launch of X37B, and a second vehicle planned for later this year, could lead to the militarization of space.

3)US defense officials, who would not say how much the project had cost, insisted, however, that it was “just an updated version of the Space Shuttle activities”.

1) USA has had eyes in space for a long time now. Consider all the Satellites...Each capable of *seeing*

2) Probably Same as #1...... Regan Years?

3) None would be so dumb as to make a 2nd mistake like the shuttle. I recall reading

Its orbit was too low ( low earth orbit ) & almost obsolete soon after it was built.

As for them not saying what it costs....Fine & well if not paid for with TAX dollars.

If it is US defense then it is TAX dollars & as such Congress better get their job done.......Yeah Right

(sung to the tune of somewhere over the rainbow)
