I know about the weekend market

But I am looking for a rolling Chassis without Motor for a rebuild.

Anyone know any Garages that do Mini rebuilds?

I am also looking for custom Upholster I know there is many around but I am looking for one that is recommended for show car Upholster workmanship.

Any help/Advice welcome

I'm looking for Rover/Austin/Morris Mini Garage or Wreckers :D :D :D

:D But you would have trouble finding one of these in the UK never mind Thailand. :D

I have ridden all around Thailand and haven't seen a great deal of minis. Quite a few Fiat 500 and the like but very few British oldies. I also have noticed that 90% of the old cars you do see have a Nissan or Toyota diesel shoe horned into them which for me takes all the pleasure away. Good luck though :)

There is some around you just need to know where to look

I have been told there is a district in BKK that has all this sort of thing.

Usually all in the same Aria as the Vespa, VW, Restorers.

I am just seeing if any Farangs know where to look before I go and ask my Thai Work mates.

Hope you get some help. Cut my teeth on genuine mini's from way back then. My first was a 1959 850cc. They are good fun and be made to run quick. :D

Yep I had a Mini back in NZ I rebuilt it then moved up to a 77 Ford Cortina with a v6 Capri for rallying.

What I am looking for is a Garage that will do a restore of the shell and interior

and also somewhere that is capable of doing a B16 V-TEC conversion for a post 1990 Mini.

http://www.vtec-mini.co.uk/vtec.html style.

That will be fun on the drag strip.. :)

any help will be appreciated...

Old minis are very expensive here (600K at least). Many look like they have been restored. I wonder if they were imported, rebuilt and a hefty price tag put on them. I wonder what it would cost to get a car from the UK? For other cars it seems not to be worth it, but for a mini...?

I had a 1275 clubman (bored to 1310) in Australia. Loved that thing and it flew...100mph with your bum 15 cm from the ground is quite exciting! I put loads of money but sold it dirt cheap when I came to Thailand. There might be some old ones that could be imported (can we even import old cars like that, I don't know). Good luck with your project!

Update....

Yes I have Googled Mini Club Thailand thanks..

So apparently Minis are $$$$ here

1 because they are very popular...

2 Because cars imported to LOS attract idiotic import duties..

SO I got talking to a Bloke who was in the know about this stuff..

He suggested I get a Shell/ Wreck of Classic from NZ, OZ, or UK

If I can get a rolling chassis without the Engine it is not classed as a car it is classed as spare parts.

As this will not the be Taxed the same as a complete car dose.

After importing the parts have it assembled and finished here.

I guess I will have o look into this a little more.

Yes but there maybe someone in the club that knows where there is a shell. They don't all just buy restored ones there are guys who restore their own.

I have one customer with two Minis.

For the sake of your bank balance, DO look into this thoroughly!

I have lost count of the numbers of posts here telling people to NEVER think of importing a car into Thailand. Or parts thereof!

The 200% stated on the official paperwork is only the start of the traumas. The (Thai) Pres of the top classic car club of this land has stated publicly that a personal import is "impossible" under the current Customs regime. How often do we have to say this??

Talk to the countless people who have brought big bikes into Thailand in parts. You will NEVER get it registered and it is vulnerable to confiscation (with NO appeal or recompense) the moment you go out on the road.

The best you can do is find a Thai registered Mini WITH tabien rot (log book) to buy and restore. And do check that, if it has been off the road for some years, how much back road tax must be paid? Yes. If it has not been officially registered as unused, you must pay. At least, there IS a discount for years above 4 or 5, depending on the friendliness of your local Land Transport office!

Worse. There are a few Minis in noth west Thailand, but none that I know of for sale. Good luck.
