Mother Of All Gushers Could Kill Earth's Oceans

Featured Replies

Sorry to have put Iran's name in that other post as it took it sideways...

Maybe a new thread?

I thought this was a very interesting read............

Mother of all gushers could kill Earth's oceans

Imagine a pipe 5 feet wide spewing crude oil like a fire hose from what could be the planets' largest, high-pressure oil and gas reserve. With the best technology available to man, the Deepwater Horizon rig popped a hole into that reserve and was overwhelmed. If this isn't contained, it could poison all the oceans of the world.

"Well if you say the fire hose has a 70,000 psi pump on the other end yes! No comparison here. The volume out rises geometrically with pressure. Its a squares function. Two times the pressure is 4 times the push. The Alaska pipeline is 4 feet in diameter and pushes with a lot less pressure. This situation in the Gulf of Mexico is stunning dangerous." -- Paul Noel (May 2, 2010)

Last night we received the following text in an email, author not identified. I passed it by Paul Noel, who is an expert in the field. His response follows thereafter. In calculating the gallons required to kill the oceans, remember that oil goes to the surface, where life is concentrated.

Read somewhere on a webforum about a guy that was fishing near the rig and he said the rig vibrated or something then a massive amount of water came down the pipes and then methane gas came out. His buddy said go go go it's a blowout. Apparently all power on the rig was then switched of and then an emergency generator switched on and ignited the methane he believes.

Will post if I can find again, had pictures and short clip.

Another site said it could easily reach the Florida keys once the oil enters a particular stream. Said not if, when could be within the next 24 hours.

So much for the largest living coral reef in North America. Or something like that.

That would be the Gulf Stream Alex

Yes Koheesti it would not be good news at all. The ocean plays a critical part in our existence.

After reading the article and the recommendations for slowing flow, capping, etc. I was shaking my head in wonderment, then I noted the downhole pressure that was bandied about. These figures plus the other nonsense that was printed and I will just ignore, and pass along, unbelievable.

Your reference to this last article (at least based on real facts and proposed outcomes) does point out additional problems which can be foreseen and are real possibilities. What I find interesting is that these scientists neglect to mention the numerous NATURAL oil seeps which have been flowing into the Gulf waters for recorded time.Having worked in the Gulf for several years (oil field) we used to comment on the natural flows/oil slicks visible from the air. I am not trying to minimize the fire, lose of control of the well, pollution result to date and future, etc (read other posts I have made on the subject). Its just that the doomsayers who crawl out to get their name before the public with the IFS' etc need to verify numbers and print facts not some hypothesis based on gut feeling and emotions.

If they want to determine the effect on the ocean floor they could use the natural seeps, calculate their flow, estimate the life of the seep (lots of luck), note marine life affect and then compare to the present situation. That is called educated research and make a hypothesis pertaining to present situation. The oil sector have numerous companies/people with decades of experience who are working to cap the well and necular explosive devices thankfully are not licensed to any of them.

Yes Thankfully they do not have Nuclear devices but the decades of experience speaks for itself doesn't it?...Lets hope the DOD stays out of it too.

As for doomsayers...Of course there are times when folks may worry too much.

In this case I would say it was a case of not worrying sooner.

Things like this have a way of changing the game for everyone.

Lets hope this can be fixed quickly as I have read we do rely on the Ocean's contribution for something like 70% of our oxygen don't we?

Two thirds of the worlds population live within 40 miles of the ocean.

One-Sixth of the worlds population gets all their protein from the fish of that ocean.

The rain we see & the water we drink are tied to that ocean too.....

So yes I am glad they do not have access to a nuclear device because there would in fact be a strong possibility of f_cking this up even more so.

Yes also they could do an estimated guess based on seepage in the past. But I doubt it needs much thinking to assume 210,000 gallons a day of crude dumping into the gulf less than a month from the start of hurricane season could be a major problem.

Lets hope these towers they are thinking of placing over the leaks help.

How so? There have been many underwater tests with massive bombs and the world's oceans barely noticed. Couldn't a bunker-busting mini-nuke close the hole? That is if there was such a thing as a mini-nuke. :)

The risk would be insane.

No matter what tests may have been done before none were ever done against an oil leaking underwater volcano basically.

Look at the leak now & what it is becoming.

Now imagine an explosion that either closes it or opens that wound to something like a 1/4 mile hole......

Cannot even imagine the impact but it would be biblical......

Really amazing watching CNBC here in the US this morning.

This thing is BAD

The ocean is also picking up today & cleaning has to be called off again.

Also seems the dome containments failed.

It is definitely threatening coastal areas & wetlands now.

This is going to change many things including peoples lives & livelihoods.

Maybe folks should start buying up the cheap property in the north?

Because at this rate southern states could see an exodus.

Really a terrible mess.

Hope they can do something..........But by something I do not mean the science experiment they

have now hastily gotten approval for. That chemical dispersant's they are putting in the ocean to supposedly blend/cut the oil. Many have already stated that the chemical toxicity of petroleum products are increased when dissolved into water by dispersant's.

It is coming off as more of a make up/ disguise the oil solution.

Just another political circus.

Yes the whole thing is a joke not unlike the Banking hearings.

I saw a lot of the hearing on TV here. Same old & all the while oil

is pumping into the ocean.

I think a well pointed massive nuke detonated a few hundred meters above the center of the oil spill would at least vaporise a huge part of the oil slick.

Let's do it!

:D

:)

Selfish I s'pose, but.........

Am I glad I have lived and have enjoyed a simple life.

Greed is stuffing the planet Earth.

Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't there naturally occurring oil seeps constantly adding oil to our oceans and lands.

Isn't that how man came to utilize it as a resource.?

Yes, oil seepage is a natural phenomonon. A link:

To your other question. I always thought Jed Clampett was the first to discover oil when he was hunting squirrels. :)

Folks, I want to tell you a story about a man named Jed, a poor mountaneer (but he kept his family fed), and then one day he was shooting at some food, when up through the ground came a bubbling crude. Oil that is. Black gold. Texas tea........

He he...I just saw chuck's reference to Jed. Great mind's think alike, eh????

Goodbye world = Hello afterlife, its all doom and gloom folks.

Not untill December 2012. 'Til then....eat drink and be merry.

Can we fast forward to then, this is getting really tideous.

These douchebags at BP have now come out and admitted that they arnt capturing as much of the oil as they stated previously. I think they are now hinting at 2200 barrels per day but this 'mother of all gushers' is certainly spewing out much more than that every day - This disaster is HUGE!

BP should get 'owned' over this one, someones goolies need to be strung up for it.

Yes many sites have been trying in vain to draw attention to the facts.

You are right that this disaster is biblical with much more potential to come.

This is a game changer.

If you are referring to the 'game of life' I would have to agree. I wonder why the mainstream media seem so relaxed about this. There should be BP executives being executed live on TV. Somebody needs to plug this whole and FAAAST. In the mean time I might just run around with my hands in the air muttering those words, 'The end is near'. :)
