The Sydney to Hobart race is conducted under the Racing rulz of Sailing determined and published by the International Sailing Gederation.

Here you go:

The race committee had alleged Wild Oats XI breached race rules by failing to have an operational radio as she entered Bass Strait.

All dismissed now.

Wild Oates confirmed the winner.

Yes, yes, good for them.

Next year they will have to compete with the 'neverdie' team, i am sure he will be a real threat :lol:

Do you think the owners of these boats are going through a midlife crisis? I mean, what's with the names Weird Willie and Wild Oats?

And <deleted> is this:

14. Secret Men's Business 3.5 Finished 03:00:42:10

Geoff Boettcher (21) SA 29 Dec, 1:42pm

Just what have you been doin ND? You're not really in Thailand are you? Pleading ignorance, my foot?

ND - you being a sort of sailor-man - on the news this morning they were yakking about the first boat back from the Syd 'n' Hob run (Weird Willie II or something) not yet getting line honours because they broke some rule. How can you break any rule in an out-and-back race, if you get there, then come back?

Did they have a tow?

Did they short-cut?

Is there a Volvo Penta or several hidden below-decks?

Don't get it.

Firstly the race is one way, not out and back. The crews are usually too busy getting pissed in Hobart up to, and past, New Years to be in too big a hurry to go home.

The breach of rules was a failure to radio the race committee after they entered Bass Strait. A number of other yachts also breached this safety rule.

Bass Strait can be extremely dangerous. In 1998 six competetors drowned and 55 had to be rescued in a huge storm that wrecked the fleet. I guess the radio checks are there to let the authorities know they are still floating and not in any trouble. Some skippers probably don't want their rivals to know their position so skip the updates.

I wish Gazza, I wish. What a beautiful example of a Yacht it is too.

I'm sure if I set off in my bathtub @ the start of the race, i'd still be paddling at this point in time

Indeed. They don't call it the Sydney to Hobart for any old reason

" All that holds me to this boat is a piece of 10mm rope"

Silly people.

They'd avoid all that if only they took the plane. They'd get there quicker too.

You obviously havent seen aircraft crash investigation then.

I know many craft have yet to finish.

ND, any knowldge how "Secret Mens Business" is progressing?

Last seen as a radar blip off the Bermuda Triangle. Blown off course, of course. Nothing better than a good blow every now and then.

A quick change of subject. Do you ever find yourself having a gander at any threads in which the last poster was a particular individual?

I do when it is either that ska'd member above or that member of the Manitoba Curling Association. I find their biting one liners, snide remarks, pisstakes, etc. just so amusing I can't help myself but check what new pearls of wisdom they have for us. They really seem to pi#s people off too (I believe unintentionally) which adds to the merriment. :D They do not seem to be choosy about which threads to post in either.

Suiging's witty bullets are usually up there too. "poofs" indeed!

It takes me up to two weeks to come up with witty ripostes, by which time threads have moved on and no-one knows what the eff I am talking about. Actually, even if my response is instantaneous no-one knows what I'm on about. :crying:

I actually just got off the phone to the Yachts owner and passed on our congrads...ie: from the SMB forum contributors ;)

I understood that they (Wild Oates) made the required contacts, but did so by mobile phone - so it was a matter of possible penalty because someone was being anal about the rules. In the end, a just result...

transam, mca, loz, ballpoint, smokie, the immortal one, beetlejuice. To name but a few.

Whenever you see their names you just know that there is some piss-taking being done to somebody.

Of course, it would be rude of one not to join in :)

What are you talking about, we ship racing boats by air all the time... Some even have masts that can be screwed off in the middle to reduce transportation cost.

'Tis the truth. And my favourite time of the year is the Boat Show in Phuket, always looking forward to go there and have my company pay. :-)
