Anyone know where I can buy the following plant:

Ravenala madagascariensis, commonly known as Traveller's Tree or Traveller's Palm?

Check out the plant and garden places, the one near the army base would be a start, then those on the super highway.

Might be an idea to take that photo, they're fairly easy to identify and they may be able to get one in for you.

Could be a lengthy wait growing them from seeds.

As you see from Brian's link they are not a palm but a strelitzia, related to the bird of paradise plant.

Getting one already established in a pot could save several years. They like a true tropical climate, growing best on the sheltered side of a house that gets a bit of sun. I tried to grow one in Adelaide once but the first sniff of frost knocked it flat.

Where is the army base located? And the plant and garden places on the superhighway....where would they be situated....closer to Big C, or King Mengrai or up north near Makro. I don't recall having seen any, but then I don't get out much.

I'm sure someone will be along with better directions. If you know where the condotel is or Ricco's Bar & restaurant, then just head south down that road for a few hundred metres. Its walking distance from there.

The ones on the superhighway are heading up towards Makro, you can't really miss them on both sides of the highway, there huge.

If you do happen to pass Rico's , check out his cheese burgers, orgasmic. He's also started to sell Pizza's , they looked and smelled perfect. Sorry for digressing, I guess I'm hungry

There's a good one on the highway going south from Big C on the same side. Always has massed potted Poinsettias out the front at Christmas.

There's a couple of lesser known ones near where I live, turn off at the White Temple, then turn left at the T junction and they're a few kms south on your right. Very cheap, we bought a lot of house plants there when we built.

Thanks to everyone who helped me out on this one. We found just what the wife was looking, for heading up towards Makro today...potted ones about 1 meter tall for 200 baht. Looking forward to tracking down Rico's. I could do with an orgasmic cheeseburger.
