A Sheet Of Glass, A Desk And A Position Of Authority

Featured Replies

a fews day ago whilst doing some research on youtube i came across a funny scene from the scottish sit com series, still game. it shows one of the characters winston coming up against a dhss employee sitting behind a sheet of glass refusing to give him his pension. to cut a long story short, he goes into one and loses it. very funny to watch and made even more so by his antics and the fact that he shows his frustration by taking the piss out of her and stating the shes lucky to be sitting behind a desk with a sheet of glass to protect her from him dragging her across the counter and giving her a piece of his mind.

it got me to thinking today as i had to visit the local branch of my bank out here in thailand. a very pleasant experience, helpful employee and not a Payne of glass in sight. whilst waiting for the young lady to carry out the transaction i reflected back on the scene id seen on youtube and then remembered back to all the times back in the u.k. when i had myself encountered such unhelpful and annoying human beings.

one instance funnily enough happened at my local branch of my bank. it was a week before i left england to come back out to thailand and had called in to settle all my financial arrangements and request a withdrawal of around 2000 pounds in brand new fifty pound notes.( reason being i know how picky some banks can be out here about the state o foreign note denominations). got chatting to the girl that was serving me behind the counter and the conversation lead onto the fact that was leaving the country to go out and live in thailand. at this particular moment though another employee who i had the misfortune of having dealings with before, caught wind of the conversation and the request. to which she replied "we dont print the money here, you know" now i dont think it was a particularly pressing thing to ask, seeing as i was giving them a few days notice in time for them to arrange it and after all it was a bank and money, but the tone of the womans voice and the manner in which she said it just rubbed me up the wrong way.

so much so that i thought fuc_k it im leaving this place anyway and have had enough of this cow over the years, so i let her have it both barrels! im not saying if the glass had not been there i would have gone to any extreme, but i let her know in no uncertain terms that i wasnt happy about they way she had addressed both myself and the request.

so my question is. have you ever been in a situation where be it here, back home or in any other country when you have come across such a character of such ilk and felt like dragging them across the counter and put the record straight.

I work for an agency in the UK and there are two agents.....if the lassie picks up the phone I just cut the call....she is f***ing useless. There I just wish I was rude enough to say it to her face. She has a nice pair of legs though....
