Is this more embarrassing for the Church, or for the men who will now get de-frocked (if that's the correct word?) for being gay? I can understand wanting to embarass some large organization (religious, gov't, corp, etc), but to do it at the expense of individuals who haven't done anything wrong doesn't seem the way to go. Unless of course, being gay is a crime?

Both.

It's embarrassing for the Catholic Church as well as for the priests involved.

There's nothing wrong with being gay but it's the denial what's so embarrassing.

Both the Church and the priests are giving an example to their followers/believers of what's good and wrong in life in general and being gay is something considered to be wrong and unnatural, in the Catholic Church's eyes that is.

A priest knows this and shouldn't want to become a priest in the first place and if he discovered his gay being at a later stage he should step down as a priest.

It's about the hypocracy of the Catholic Church and involved priests and that's so embarrassing.

Priest, assigning a Mass in Church for their followers on one day and having sex the same night in a club or a cheap hotel room in Rome is something hard to believe and/or accept for their Catholic believers.

Personally I think it's good that this article has exposed the life some of the priests are leading (but maybe there are many..who knows?) especially since the Catholic Church (read: "Rome") has been denying the sexual encounters of so many priests, worldwide, abusing so many innocent children.

This is just a next step.

..hopefully a more open Church and abandoning their absurd rules and views upon reality.

But...that counts for other religions as well; some even more secretive than the Catholic Church...<_<

sigh, let's try this again and see if TV doesn't erase it this time...

It's not up to mere mortals to change the rules of the god they follow just to satisfy the ever-changing cultural morals in order to make themselves feel better, is it?

Would you apply that line of thought to Islam?

It should apply to any religion that believes it is following the word of its diety(ies).

Well, if you agree with the simple rule of the CC that sexual intercourse is only permitted to "produce" children.....

practice makes perfect. :)

You're really hug up on the CC, aren't you? I don't think this is the first time you've gone after them. Were you ever an altar boy?

No, you're mistaken and no I wasn't an altar boy.

So it's ok for Islam to be stuck in the 13th century rather than making a bit of progress towards enlightenment?

Technically, Christianity should be stuck back where it was almost 2000 years ago. I haven't read the Bible or any other holy manuscript. Is there a part in there that says something like, "Man can make changes as he sees fit as he becomes more enlightened"?

Is it "OK" to stay "stuck" in some distant century? Don't make the mistake of thinking I approve of any of this. I don't personally believe any of these holy works around the globe are the written word of some diety. All I am saying, is that IF God (or any other diety) actually did come to Earth and laid down the law in printed form, then who gave Man the authority to make changes? I don't believe God gave the Pope or anyone else the power of attorney to make changes where they see fit. If so, I think we have a right to see it.

Bottomline IMO - TRUE believers don't change the word of God (Budda, Allah, Chaka Khan, whoever). The only reason to change a god's ancient laws is because the leaders of a religious group don't want to lose followers which would decrease their power - which is what it has always been about.

I am reminded of the story about the Catholic Priest that was charged by the Vatican with checking out the translations made in early Christianity to ensure they were accurate.

After several days, a Cardinal visited the Priest in his study and found the Priest holding his head, sobbing.

When the Cardinal asked what the problem was, the Priest answered..."The word was 'Celebrate'!

I am of a simmilar attitude there.
