I am thinking of coming for a few days in Chang Rai in October and fitting in my 90 day visa run in with it. I will be coming from Nakhon Sawan by bus do I arrive at the old bus station or the new one? Do I gather I use another bus station to get to Mae Sai? How long does it take and what costs are involved? I have found information about somewhere to stay useful already from this forum so thank you all for that and looks like there are some good places to eat as well, looking forward to the visit and for any further information you can give which will be appreaciated. Did I see mention of a hot spring swimming pool?

Hi Nong38.

You will arrive at the new bus station. There is a 10 baht bus service to the old bus station where you can get regular buses to Maisai.

You may however get a bus from the new bus station to Maisai.

Shouldn't be any moe than a couple of hours to maisai, not sure of the fare but it's not expensive if you take the regular bus.

Not sure of hot springs pool in Chiang Rai city but there is one in Bandu, Chiang Rai which is about 10k.m out of town.

Hope you have a nice time here.

Has anyone else have any good ideas for 1 night stay in Mae Sai

Wer are looking at staying 1 night in a future trip.

As we are finding it hard to find a reasonably priced A/C place to stay.

Thank you dingdong and changarden for the useful information. I look forward to coming "up north" and seeing another part of Thailand.

Theres a place 400 baht a night, Aircon, TV, Hot Shower, etc. nothing special but certainly value for money.

Can't think of the name but its a 3 or 4 storey place just opposite the strange bungalow resort that seems to be abandoned on the hill there. Take a left at the border point, go down 100 yds and take another left , the street runs parallel to the river.

This is a great border crossing. Best i have experienced in Thailand and possibly anywhere.

Police and immigration officials on both sides (but Myanmar especially) are so much more pleasant than those I have seen in other places.
