A Christmas Gift:  The Nutcracker.

 

Unfortunately, my favorite two HD videos of the Nutcracker ballet performed by the Mariinsky Ballet in St. Petersburg are no longer available on YT.  Thankfully I had downloaded them.  I'm finding the complete ballet of other Mariinsky ballets but the video quality is subpar.  The music is superb, though.  Gotta hand to the Russians . . . they are tops for ballet.  The stage settings, costumes, choreography, the music, the performances . . . simply mesmerizing.  My daughter got hooked when she was all but 2 years old.  She would watch almost the entirety of the 1 hour + performance.  Her favorite part . . . the mouse king.

 

Christmas ain't Christmas without seeing or hearing the Nutcracker.

 

 

This is a clip of the Arabian Dance from one of the vids that I managed to download before it's removal.  Simply stunning to watch the fluidity of her dance.  And it's one of my (and my daughter's) favorite scenes.  M.Shemiakin is the director and Valery Gergiev the conductor.
