In restaurants in civilized countries they have fire suppression systems built into ventilation hoods above grills and cooking areas.

I was running a hotel with a large dining room and banquet facility we had about 100 yards of cooking lines. The largest part of the line was the section for the main dining room. Steak grills, sauté station, fry cookers and steam kettles for soups and sauces and a bank of ten convection ovens. A very large kitchen as we sometimes served 5000 plus meals per hour.

The head night cook moonlighted as a TV repairman. One of the waitresses needed her TV repaired and the cook had gone to her house and fixed it. For payment he demanded sex. She threw the guy out of her house.

That night he ran her tables 5 minutes and 30 minutes. The system was, turn in the tickets after she served the salads and the orders came up in about 10 minutes.

He was running her too fast and then too slow which completely screwed up her service. She put up with it for two hours. Then she said, “F You, I quit.” On her way out the door at 8:00 PM on a Saturday night she pulled the emergency fire suppression switch. 500 lbs of fire retardant chemicals sprayed along 100 yards of cooking food. The cooks, the kitchen and everyone close was covered in white dust. Food destroyed. Restaurant closed for the night. Big bucks lost. But I could understand her anger.

You know what lannarebirth, I totally get it. I dont want to be accused of having rose-tinted glasses, but thats part of what i love about living here..the general politeness. Or, at least if people are being rude or defiant, there isnt too much of a drama about it..certainly not cussing you out.

I cringe at people shouting. Ive always hated hearing raised voices. For all its good and bad..that 'quiet' aspect of Thailand is one of the key things holding me here.

But now im getting off topic...so back on track.. I do totally understand about the flight attendant reaching the end of his tether. I think it must be a very tough job. Any job dealing with the public can be tough, but dealing with jumped-up obnoxious passengers on a long flight who think you are akin to a skivvy must be exasperating. Seems he also had a lot on his plate at home, taking care of his mother. Im sure he would have kept going perfectly well and happy in his job if it werent for people who seem to have no manners or consideration for others whatsoever. I really abhor rudeness and lack of consideration..I may not say anything, but its just not something i stomach easily. Just having simple consideration and politeness..is that really too much to ask?

Apparently for many people, yes it is too much to ask. The general feeling of entitlement and rudeness that some people have and the way in which they treat service personnel is truly disgusting. And if you think Thai people are more polite with service people think again. We've had to have words with Thai guests in the way they treat our staff like personal servants.

Hopefully, AFTER the plane has landed safely.

Passenger Phil Catelinet said he heard the profanity-laced announcement on Flight 1052, which he said ended with Slater saying, "I've had it." He described the announcement as "the most interesting part of the day to that point"

Years ago, while working as a night manager in a 5 star hotel, I got frustrated with all the reserved wake-up calls and early breakfast orders, so at around 6.00 (am) I set off the fire alarms.

Everybody went outside, and an hour later everybody was awakw, packed, fed breakfast and checked out.

it was lovely.

What's hard for me is to have no one else acknowledge that this video is f'ing hilarious, whilie at the same time posting "timeless tunes" no one ever heard of by bands no one ever heard of either. How could that combo possibly be "timeless"? Ah well.

I liked it.

I'll play it to my boss the day I retire - unless he fires me first.

Then I'll put it on the company web-site.

Me too, I despise people yelling and shouting at me. I decided long ago when somebody carries on like that I will just walk away, irregardless of this situation. Thats pretty much what the flight attendant did, although he used his bum and slid away  Legend.

Good for you, 50 people upset you and you got your revenge on 550 with your little tantrum! Glad I can't afford 5 star hotels with that sort of staff attitude. They were only asking you to do your job.

It sounds like some people have never had a service job in their lives. :D

I had a service job for a few years. I use to drive around at all hours of the night & when I spotted a customer I would leap out of my vehicle and chase him down dark alley ways, over fences & thru fields. When I would finally catch up to him I would smack him down (sometimes twice) and put my boot on his throat before putting a lovely pair of bracletes on his wrists. In attempt to provide an unforgetable experience I would then drag him back thru the bush before gently placing him in a nice little cage. Later I would chat with him & extract obtain a little confession from him before heading out to offer my service to some other wonderful fine upstanding member of the community.

Strangely enough, very seldomly would anyone complain, my boss reakoned I supplied outstanding customer service, unlike the limp wristed waffle they go on with in this day & age.:whistling: Ahhh them were the days.

Anyway UG, you were saying?
