Video Of Lynch Mob Killing Two Teenage Brothers Sparks Mass Demonstrations Across Pakistan

Featured Replies

A horrifying video of a crowd watching a mob beat two teenage brothers to death has sparked mass demonstrations in Pakistan.

The video, broadcast on Pakistani news channels, shows a lynch mob taking turns to savagely beat the two boys with sticks, drawing blood from them before dragging and hanging their dead bodies from a nearby pole.

But perhaps just as shocking is that none of the dozens of people and police watching tried to stop the vicious attack.

article-1305213-0AE20257000005DC-887_468x286.jpg Left to hang: The brothers' dead bodies were hung from poles after a mob, believing them to be robbers, beat them to death with sticks

It is now thought the boys, who were on their way to play cricket in Sialkot, an eastern Punjab province, may have been mistaken for robbers by the group who decided to

deliver brutal justice for their supposed crime last Sunday.

The scenes have outraged Pakistanis, some who are questioning how their society could passively watch the shocking killings without intervening.

The News, an English-language daily newspaper, wrote: 'Is this what we are? Savages? So utterly bereft of a speck of humanity that a crowd of ordinary men are passive spectators to public murder?'

Compare this action to some of their ways of dealing with adultery, sex outside marriage, insufficient dowry, theft, etc, why would anyone be surprised. They expect the western world to bail them out of every natural disaster so they can continue to raise children in an environment where this type of action is actually not real uncommon.

The problem with videos like this is sadly, it does turn me into a racist until somebody reminds me it's not PC to be one..............

So how about a video of someone that has been executed by electric chair or deathly injection and after they find out (eventually) that person/human was not guilty?

Why are you posting this Boater, WHAT KIND OF DISCUSSION YOU WANT TO START?

Please. Comparing someone getting arrested, standing trial, going to jail, then years later getting executed in a relatively painless way to what happened to these two kids being beaten to death in the street is ridiculous.

I'd rather take this in the direction of the mob mentality. I saw a video taken in either Malaysia or Indonesia where one man was chasing another around with a machete in a crowd of people and there were police standing by watching. They did stop the guy but not until he almost cut off the top of the man's skull so that it flopped around like a loose toupe.

This event in Pakistan is just an example of some of the darker side of human nature - the mob mentality. It has nothing to do with race, religion or culture. It's sick.

It is "racist".

Mob mentality as you quite rightly say, is a human condition which crosses all normal boundaries of colour, creed, race or whatever.

However, would this horror have happened in Sweden ? Would it have happened in the USA, where in the deep south you lot were lynching coloured men well into the 20th century ? How about Australia where they still went on Abbo hunts in Tasmania until they wiped out an entire people ?

The answer is no. The peoples of those countries may still have the darkness needed to do such evil hidden away somewhere in their soul, but the culture, religion, and simple standards set by their communities would not allow it.

The PC brigade can blow their trumpets as much as they like, but it is a simple fact that for whatever reason ( another debate ) certain sectors of the human race have not dragged themselves out of the depths yet. Some may never achieve civility.

I am able to hide such dark thoughts under my own veneer of social correctness, until I see such horror.

It probably has a lot to do with the insistance on sharia law.

Sadly religion plays a major part.

Look at Scandinavia. Those jolly Vikings when pagan, terrorised the North, nailing priests to doors, murdering and raping at will. They now live in communities ( and different countries ) dominated by basically high Germanic law and a secular approach to religion. They have changed.

The early Popes set the Inquisition on the world. Great fun burning witches, pulling the arms out of the sockets of unbelievers, until that religion decided such behaviour was uncivilised and unacceptable.

In today's world, countries that have such religious domination tend ( only tend, Mexico seems to be sliding into the depths ) to behave in a more civilised manner within their own community. They do not mutilate children or woman in the name of their Gods and I doubt very much the forces of law and order and the general communities of those nations as a whole, would stand by and allow two teenage cricket players, to be tortured to death for four hours.

The irony of the whole thing is that when the predominantly Christian, nations were still barbaric ( see Inquisition, Jewish pogroms, Protestant/catholic massacres etal ), Islam to a great degree was the religion of relative tolerance, education and culture. Where has it gone wrong..............................

I still don't see it as a racial or religious issue. A group of angry people thought they caught some criminals and decided to take the law into their own hands. Many Westerns (cowboy movies) had the same plot - angry townspeople catch an innocent man, believing he committed some awful crime decide not to wait for a trial but instead lynch him even if it means laying seige to the jailhouse.

See your point. But the Wild West ended pre-First World War. It was about the same time as the Turks last attempted genocide on the Armenians. I don't think a lynching in Dakota or a mass killing in Turkey are on the cards, today, same as I don't think this would have happened in either country as well.

Now they may have tried it in the nineties during the Balkan Wars, but there again, race and religion was the key.

I'll agree that different countries/cultures/religions have "evolved" or progressed more than others.

But in the Balkans in the 90's, it was totally different than what we see in the video above. In the video, a mob is taking justice into their own hands, going after people who they believe to be criminals. In the Balkans, the violence had nothing to do with anyone being a criminal or not, it was - like you wrote - all about race and religion.

So how about a video of someone that has been executed by electric chair or deathly injection and after they find out (eventually) that person/human was not guilty?

But this thread is about a lynch mob killing in Afghanistan, why not comment on this thread or if you wish to talk about execution in America, start a new thread.

The sickening thing about this and what really makes it appear to reflect on Pakistani society as a whole, is that police were present and did nothing. Having an unruly mob can happen in any country but having the law present suggests that many there seem to think that this kind of think is OK.
