Trip Planning Advice

Featured Replies

The plan is to leave next week for a trip to Laos. Phuket to Bangkok to Chiang Rai and cross into Laos at Chiang Khong. Work my way south and exit Laos at Vientiane. I have heard the roads are not too good with all the recent rain. Anyone done the route through Laos recently and relate road conditions? Plan to take 2 - 3 weeks for the entire trip. Ideas, suggestions or cautions?

Are you planning on driving all that way? If so, there are some threads I've read in the past about trying to take a car in to Laos you should check...

Good Luck.

Hi Scudman,

If you want - drop me a mail at [email protected] and or a call at 0819902096. I can probably tell you what you want to know. Over the past 6 years we have managed to ride just about all the roads and most all the tracks in Laos from top to bottom.

We also now live in Chiang Khong (lived in Phuket for 16 years, sailing...) so stop in and say hello when you pass through.

Cheers,

David and Mai

Chiang Khong

"Thanyaburi Mac" is one of more helpful folks here on TV and knows a lot about Laos. He drives across on a regular basis as the TLC organization have some projects going. Also knows a lot about Ban Huayxai(sp?). Drop him a PM.
