September 8, 201015 yr I just had some guys here giving me an outrageous quote for a 27 metre long block wall. How much are you paying per lineal metre for a one and two metre high wall?
September 9, 201015 yr Believe its still around baht 1700 per linear meter X 2 meters Arnold Judas Rimmer of Jupiter Mining Corporation Ship Red Dwarf
September 9, 201015 yr Author Thanks. Funny I calculated I'd need a bit less that 1000 bricks, plus the sand and cement, along with a bit of steel. If bricks are 7 baht, that's 7K for the bricks and I figure another 7K for sand and cement, a bit for steel and the rest in labor. Seems there's really good margins on building block walls.
September 9, 201015 yr Your question pertains to cost of a block wall. What about supporting foundation, beams, posts and lintels?
September 9, 201015 yr If you can figure out the materials, you should be able to get labor at 250 B/day - usually there are husband/wife teams that work for 300-400 / day. You can get the red brick for about 85 satang/brick but those will take longer (in labor) to build vs a larger brick. In any case, you are probably going to get a better price buying materials yourself and then using labor to do it (versus a "project" quote).
September 10, 201015 yr I would say it all depends on the structural quality you want. A really poor quality wall with no footings and poured on the ground foundation mated to the pre-made 4x4 posts set in the ground will cost very little compared to a real wall with footings and foundation dug down in the ground and rebar columns and block walls with attaching rebar. As Rimmer said 1700 is a good ballpark cost. Breezeblock or cinder block cost is about 3 to 4 baht per block or less if you get lucky buying in quantity. IMHO figure a minimum of 1,000 per meter total labor and material for a decent wall complete with rendering and paint and more as the quality goes up.
September 10, 201015 yr Are you building on filled rice paddy, or up in the mountains on firmer strata? If the former, the pounded piers & poured footing is your real cost item.
September 11, 201015 yr Author Wife bought all the material from a local shop with a lot of steel. All in 16,000 baht and this will be with very strong supporting tied steel columns. We have 3 people working at an average of 350/day (Phuket is expensive), so I figure we'll be in at around 30K for a 27 metre by 2.5 metre high wall. BTW these workers have their own tools for cutting steel etc.
October 15, 201015 yr Author To follow up, I ended up paying 20K for all materials, and 12K for labor for a 17 metre wall that is 2.5 metres high. Originally I was quoted " around 50-60K".
