Dear Phuket and Southern Thailand Area American Citizens,

The Consular Section of the American Embassy in Bangkok is pleased to inform you of a consular outreach visit to Phuket on September 22 2010.

Please come if you can!

Consular staff will be available to provide services on: Thursday, September 22, 2010 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Hilton Arcadia Phuket Resort, at 333 Patak Road, Karon Beach, Muang, Phuket, 83110, Thailand. Telephone: 76-396-433. E-mail [email protected]

The following consular services will be available during our outreach visits:

* Passport renewal applications ($110.00 or Baht 3,630 for adult passports, and $105 or Baht 3,465 for a child's passport).

* Notarial Services and Certified Copies ($50.00 or Baht 1,650). This includes income affidavits for retirees in Thailand.

* Extra visa pages ($82 or Baht 2,706). Note: we can accept applications, but the passports will have to be brought back to the Embassy for final processing the next day. The passports will then have to be picked up in person (or by a friend upon presentation of a letter of authorization signed by the applicant) at the Embassy.

* Social security, VA, or other federal benefits question will be limited, but we will try to provide forms and answers.

(Please bring exact change!)

Consular Reports of Birth cannot be processed during consular outreach trips.

If you have any questions, please email [email protected] or call the American Citizen Services Unit at 02-205-4049.

We look forward to seeing you.

Sincerely,

American Citizen Services

U.S. Embassy

Bangkok, Thailand

The email says Thursday the 22nd, when the 22nd is actually on a Wednesday. I have written them for a clarification...

What do I need to bring to renew my passport...besides the exact fee amount, anything?

I believe you will need two passport photos and your current passport. You will need to fill out an application too. See this link to the US Embassy: US Embassy Passport. And here's a link to the application form: Application Form

It takes about 2 weeks to process and this is from another email from them: Please note that while we are still working with the Thai postal system in order to provide mailing services for our outreaches, the process is still ongoing. At this time you will need to pick up your new passport at the U.S. Embassy or send a representative on your behalf.

American Citizen Services

I have contacted the Phuket US Warden about this, his name is Denny Bowman and his reply was:

Hi Jim,

Thanks for helping with getting the word out. NOTE: they have a mixup on the dates using Thursday with the 22nd. I'm guessing the 22nd is right but have asked for a reply confirmation. There are some circumstances that they have mailed the passport (like extra pages), but I don't think they're comfortable stating this. Enough people we know are going back and forth to arrange a letter and a transport if we have a bit of time to work with. However, one issue on passports is the old passport must be submitted (and returned) for invalidation before issuing the replacement. Still possible through a 3rd person, and possibly by mail. Watch for my next email blast on the date confirmation, Thanks again. Denny

You can PM me for his email address as I am not allowed to post it per Forum Rules. I am not sure about submitting your old passport, the Consul will be able to give you the answer as to how this will be actually handled if you don't go in person to pick up your passport at the Embassy.

Hope this helps. Mine expires in July, so I'm in the same "boat" as you. Jimi

I just tried to download the renewal form and it seems it will only do the application by mail form, which wouldn't seem to apply in our case, so I guessing we will have to fill out the form by hand at the Consul Outreach.
