I can't help but think that the guy was asking for it ,wearing a big gold necklace tanked up, on the streets at 5.30 in the morning.

Well done to the Police for saving him from his mistake.

Obligatory immunizing PDS comment -- what do you expect, Pattaya is the arsehol_e of the world!

Now that that's out of the way, we can get to the actual news story!

This Norwegian fellow has very little common sense. Though "common sense" is not so common these days.

It should have been obvious that you should not walk around the early morning hours, drunk, and dripping in gold. The only impression he made on any one in this condition was that of being a very foolish person.

Obviously it's not a good idea to be out and about late night wearing half a ton of gold, drunk or not. But what are his options? Leave it in the hotel room safe? Yeah, it'll be real "safe" there. <_<

I suppose, assuming he's on holiday, leave it at home but then why have it in the first place?

Do you people ever read before you post?

The guy was wearing a chain of 10,5 gramthat is less then 1 baht of gold or what every gogo dancer wears. The ring I'm wearing weighs 16 gram and isn't even big.So next people gonna have their hand cut off for that?

No it just show how desperate these people are these days, neverthless the tourist arrivals rise 5% every week according to the Tourist authority.

^OK I'm not going to argue about the weight but 150k THB is still approaching 4,000 GBP.

Must be high class go-go dancers you know. ;)

You must realy be blind then as I can read worth 10.000 Baht

Still it was a gold neclace and you're asking for all kind of troubles being drunk early in the morning . I doubt he would have been robbed if it wasnt for the neclace.

Actually there is no update to acknowledge. One is a PDN article, the other is from Pattaya One. Both simply state different values.

Ladyboy Involved in Drunk Norwegian Snatch & Grab Theft

When I read the headline I thought this was a double offence, a sexual assault by a ladyboy on a hapless if inebriated Scandinavian lady ("Ladyboy Involved in Drunk Norwegian Snatch & Grab") and a theft! :(

I would suggest that if you look at the picture of the necklace,it clearly weighs more than 10.5g.It's probably,as was originally stated,a 3 Baht gold chain, which would then weigh about 105g and be worth about 150,000THB.The second article(which as "thomo" correctly stated is not an update, but a different news provider)is probably incorrect.I may of course be wrong, and if so I will expect a stern rebuke from "basjke".If I'm right perhaps he could wind it in a bit and apologise to "PhilHarries"

Well if you prefer to get involved then bettert get your facts right.I have read both articles several times and don't see anywhere stated 3 Baht gold chain.A 3 baht gold chain also doesn't weigh anything close to 105g but more like 45 gram so it will also not be worth 150.000 baht.To add the gold chain spoken about was 18 Kt gold so it's weight isn't actually expressed in "baht" and it will also weigh much less as the same volume in Thai gold.By the way have you ever seen a 105g gold chain? The chain pictured in both articles doesn't even look close to one.

Regarding the update I see clearly and in red letters written " update "at the top of post #3,which is posted by the moderator who also posted the OP.

So do you still think you are right???

Look at the picture, as displayed in both “articles”, and don’t read to much into what “the reporters” state.

How often don’t we get two very different versions from PDN and PON :whistling:

If that chain is 18K gold, its definitely worth at least 100K Baht.

At last: a reply in a news thread to put a smile on my face.

Thanks very much for that !
