There was a photo comparison in the local press recently...much preferred the exterior and interior of the Ford to the Mazda. Much more muscular and masculine looking...the Mazda looks much more effeminate. The mechanicals are pretty much the same I would imagine...so I would go for the Ford.

My 1st thoughts were that front is going to be expensive to repair..

2nd thoughts Mazda or Hyundai?

Did the Hyundai designer go to Mazda?

Front looks very mush the same as the new Hyundai

almost unbelievable how mazda has f-cked up this one

+1.

When I saw this a month ago, the very first thing I thought was "Who was the focus group for this design? A group of 15 year old Japanese school girls?"

I wouldn't be caught dead in the thing.

but its still going to sell more in LOS than Ford Ranger

To be fair to Mazda they have said they wanted the new BT50 to be more car like and apart from that "smiling grill!" its no more ugly than certain current trucks.

IE., you would have to pay me to sit in a Triton plus and as for the Pre runner tart mobile, oh do'nt get me started!, at least Isuzu's and Nissan Navs have a certain butchness about them!!.

For the OP , did you get up close to the BT50 as the report I read in the Sidney Herald said it was a con trick by Ford and Mazda. The production truck has not been built yet and the model at the show was a model mock up!.

More jounalistic motoring hyperbol?.

Oh was going to put this on one of Beachbums posts, Nissan Navara now come with cruise and fancy DVD screen, plus black leather interior,

lots of adverts on TV, mainly channel's 3,5 & 7., far too late for me as I will be saving up for the new Ranger, probably the 2.2 jobby.

Trans, does that DMAX live near you?, he's from Belfast I think, you should get together

Oh really?

Could you please explain where you got this wisdom?

You must be worth quite a lot for the marketing people!

The outgoing BT50 sells a lot less as the Ranger.

And this Mitsubishe like design, will that help?

Also interesting if the same engines will be shoved in as in the Ranger.

The 2.2 4 cyl or the 3.2 5 cyl

pickup supose to look manly.

Having a male's private part up your bum while reading a gay porn magazine is a lot manlier than this car. So it anything PINK or sir Elton John

whoever buys this over the new ford, well lol too bad for them, they're crazy.

by august ford had sold 3407 rangers and mazda had sold 3614 Bt50s. what stats are you refering to?

mazda has been around for a few decades and has lojal customers.

Correct, no actual production versions yet, what were on display were early samples. Neither Ford nor Mazda made any secret about that though - both have always stated that production was to begin in Rayong in 2011.

Ford Ranger outsold Mazda BT-50 every year except 2010. Mazda BT-50 got a big boost in sales when the Mazda 2 launched in March 2010, along with Mazda 3. Right now, BT-50 sales are ~10-11% more than Ranger (for YTD).

Mazda BT-50 will not have the same engines as Ford Ranger. BT-50 will have the new "Sky Drive" engines and gearboxes - not much real info has been released on these yet though.

Yamaouchi used the occasion to not only unveil the BT-50, but also announce its next generation of efficient Sky G petrol and Sky D diesel engines with Sky Drive transmission and i-stop stop-start technology will arrive in Australia over the next two years.

The Sky G two-litre petrol engine improves economy and power by 15 per cent and will be here next year while the Sky D 2.2-litre has 4.2L/100km economy and 112g of Cos per kilometre and will arrived in 2012.

The pick-up will begin production in Thailand in June and will be bigger, longer and wider with a deeper rear tub, a more car-like interior and more leg and knee room than the market-leading Toyota HiLux. Apart from the promise of an "all-new drivetrain" to match the "all-new body and chassis", details of features, specification, crash rating, model line-up and pricing were not revealed......

Also says the interior will be biggest in class...

The new "sporty" interior features a swooping dashboard, prominent centre stack, wrap-around driver's cockpit and the promise of creature features such as cruise control and satellite navigation, going by the buttons on the pre-production display model. Thankfully the ancient and awkward umbrella-stick handbrake has been replaced by a conventional handbrake on the centre console.

Dickson says their current pick-up customers are older than their competitors and more likely to use the vehicle for work. "We expect customers (of the new BT-50) to be males aged 30 to 49, married with kids and small business owners," he says.

"We're going to kick some sales goals..

 Dumb me for buying the Navarra especially as their Big M caused me so much grief with burned out clutches. Not only does my new Navarra squeak and rattle, has a rare wheel size so you can't find tyres for it, after 35K kms had to replace the clutch. Now at 45K kms have another burnt out clutch and they call it an "off road vehicle" Had enough and trading it in to a Ranger.
